Default Spoiler spoiling my car.

I am sick of the "light grey" spoiler grill on my black 964. I have tried everything to get it back to black without success. Therefore a few of questions

Has anyone had their grill painted - if so was it removed from the assembly or painted in situ. If the former is it possible buy a new grill?
Has anyone replaced the 964 grill/spoiler assembly with a standard 993 unit.
Has any replaced the whole deck unit with one from a 993.

All suggestions most welcome.

Best regards Andy

I asked about having mine painted and the paint shop guys said it had to come out for the best result. Haven't done it yet.

I used some wd-40 on mine, worked real well, took the grey away and has lasted for awhile now, just spray on and let it soak.

Armor-all makes mine black.

I don't think you can remove the grill on the 964 - you can't separate the spoiler.

Kevin painted his - so he will no doubt tell you how.

WD works for a while, but doesn't last unfortunately, I tried to take mine apart, but they are bonded together, I couldn't figure out a way without destroying too much. PET isn't much help as most exploded diagrams make it look like it will disassemble......ok....not.

So as Dave said, I painted mine....I know that Caveman did his as well, which is also good looking, I had a spare, so it didn't matter to me. I have spares for all the work I do, so I can return to normal when I want to, or if I ever decide to sell....

Default 993 Engine cover on a 964.

Will it fit? Any mods required?

Many thanks Andy

Mothers makes a product called Back to Black or something like that. It is applied to plastic and rubber that has lost its color. You might want to try this. I have used it on the gasket materials and it works well.

I used that on the front plastic strip just in front of the hood/bonnet and it worked very well and lasted quite a while (> 6 months) but it was not permanent.

I removed the wing this last winter and painted the grill. I am very pleased with the result.
I think it looks like factory. In fact the other day I saw another black 964 without the painted grill and it just looked very dull.
It easy to do it yourself and I think you would like the look.

Michael...so what will it take to get you to write up a DIY? Were you able to remove the grill from the wing?

Thanks

Hi Andy

I have been quoted £110 +VAT by a bodyshop to have mine painted (including the door handles too). They thought they would just mask it up as it didn't look easy to remove. Still undecided whether or not to do this, but if mine were black it would be a no brainer.

Cheers,
James

Paint it. Assuming it is similar to the 993 one you can remove it attached to the metal frame by just undoing four bolts. I bought a secondhand complete spoiler, frame and spoiler wall for £25. If I was doing it again I would just get the original done as it looks so good I won't be turning it back but you never know if you sell it.

£100 plus VAT is good for the grill and door handles. Depending upon your colour you may want to it yourself, especially if it is something easy like black. As mine is silver there was no way I was trying it!

Cheers,

David

Sorry I have been a little busy, but as far as DIY then it really easy, just unbolt the wing (4 bolts), mask it, sand it with 300 paper or similar, use a good plastic primer and paint it with a spray (I used motip). I also gave it some clear coat afterwards. But a picture says more that a thousand words, so see below.
