Above all else... You must get the 'The Enthusiast's Companion" by Adrian Streather I think the exact title is "Auftragsnummer 964 - Porsche 911 - The Enthusiast's Companion." Then it depends on your level of comfort of working on your car. IE... You don 't need the complete shop manuals if you will never turn a wrench. There is a lot of good stuff out there.

On the trivia side, the "Porsche Data Book" by Haynes is pretty interesting.

I would buy both of Adrian's books--for the 964 and the 993. The 993 book helps explain design differences of the 993 that improved certain features of the 964. I bought both. There is a correction for the DME relay discussion in the original 964 book and in actuality the inputs and outputs of DME relay circuits are even more complex than stated. The DME relay is truly an underdesigned component in Porsche cars and not just 911s.
