Thanks cupcar - how timely. I was just out in the garage mounting my BK fire extinguisher mount. I did some measuring, and I am beginning to think there is no way my seat can go any lower. I don't think it's because I have the spg xl vs the regular spg. Even if it was 10mm or 20mm narrower, it would still make contact with the rail mount point, even if the bracket base was out of the way.

I am interested in seeing your pics to see if there is any hope.

Sorry to hijack, but in case anyone is interested Ive got a 2 sets of standard steel Recaro brackets for Recaro SPGs and a complete set of Recaro sliders if anyone is in need, brackets are brand new and sliders are used. Everything you need to bolt in two Recaro SPGs.

The Porsche Motorsport Recaro OEM SPG used in the 964 Cup cars had unique mounting hardware with two identical "L" shaped side plates mounted so that the short leg of the "L" faced in the same direction toward the door jam. Like this: L [seat] L , one short leg facing under the seat, the other short leg away from the side of the seat.

These are shown by Cupcar 12 in his post above in this picture and Recaro has never, to my knowledge, sold these OEM Porsche racing side plates (at least I couldn't get them when I tried).

The tracks used a release operator that crossed in front of the seat bottom.

This hardware was available only if you bought and entire seat as there were no part numbers for individual seat parts.

Recaro would not sell the parts to the publc for some years, but in the late 90's started to sell the seat tracks and operator,as the "Double Locking Runner" set shown at this URL http://www.recaro.com/index.php?id=1055&region=3&L=2

and in the picture above.

That is exactly the same as the B-K mounts I have - they move the seat about 1/2" closer to the centre tunnel.

Cupcar: my SPG XLs are: 070.86.010.00. Not sure if that helps.

Interesting about the seat braket mounting nuances Cupcar/Marc. hmmm.

The problem is that all the Recaro seats look the same but they are different in width- by as much as 2 inches.

Recaro don't seem to pay attention to this when they ship the seats and side plates.

They must have side plates that work with each seat to come out at the Porsche mounting centers between sliders- they just don't seem to care though.

All I can say it was a b*tch to get seat mounted in car, was too wide to fit just right.
