Default Caliper spraying tech and taste advise

Hi

I'm thinking about spraying my calipers on the C4 over the next couple of months and have found a supplier of the highly recommended VHT paint used by a few members in the states here in the UK.

TECH - I have the older calipers with the raised script so I plan to spray all over and rub the script back to the metal, do I need to clear coat after this? if so, do I use the VHT clear gloss spray?

TASTE - With my car being a C4, do I keep the calipers black or should I go for red? I don't want to make out it has big reds but with the carrera script on the side and the forthcoming black with red rim wheels I thought it would look good with either. What do you think?

Thanks

Rob

Paint them what ever color you want. Its your car and making them red only means you like the look of red calipers
Anybody gives you grief just tell them to get a life.

I'd go with yellow calipers on a red car
I'm not kidding.

Once you go red, you never go back.

I agree with whatever color you want, but don't spray them!

There are manufactors that make a brush on paint and it is MUCH easier and cleaner. I've done both and would never spray again.

I powder coated mine in red, and then used the VHT caliper paint in white on the lettering. (I have the same raised lettering)

If I did it again I would probably try and clean up the casting on the raised lettering before I did the powder coating. It would have been better if it was perfectly flat, and the detail on the lettering cleaned up.

Thanks all

Does the brush on method give as good a finish as spraying?

Any recommendations on brush on paint you can get in the UK?

One other thought I had was to paint the calipers in the special paint you can get to see how hot they are, but was unsure of how the paint would stand up to varying temps. Anyone done this?

Black wheels - red calipers!

The fronts are big reds, rears (993) I sprayed myself with the VHT red caliper paint, then used vinyl Porsche lettering off eBay.

The finish with the VHT paint is very good, but you need to do 4-6 thin coats with about 20 mins between coats. Then cure the calipers in the oven at 120C - don't cure it at a higher temp, else the paints goes brown (ask me how I know!).

The temp also need to be about 20C when you use this paint - as I did mine in January, I built a temporary spray booth in the dining room with plastic sheet. The paint gets everywhere, despite my best efforts we've now got a pink-tinged area of dining room carpet!

When someone said yellow, I thought 'yuk', but actually that looks fab !
The only thing which would put me off is that it may seem to be pretentious to make them look alike the ceramics. That aside, that's my fave colour, closely followed by red.

How many people on the street that see your calipers would actually have a clue that red calipers "could" be Big Reds or Yellow "could" be ceramics? I bet very very few.
