Thumbs up 964 exhausted....

Gentlemen,

I wish to replace the secondary muffler(behind the bumper) with either a

G Pipe or a

cup pipe

What is the difference(apart from size and cost)

How does the G pipe work it look very small?

Are they very loud, more BHP?

1991 C4

TIA

The exhaust consists of a catalytic converter, primary muffler behind the bumper, and a secondary muffler on the right hand side.

You can replace the catalytic converter with a cat-bypass pipe, the primary with a cup pipe (straight thru pipe), and the secondary with a G-pipe (also straight through, but turned into a G shape to mate with the tail pipe.

Each replacement results in a different sound and, I believe, has different effects on the performance. Others will have to comment on the performance gains, but I believe they are rather subtle. I think the cat-bypass has the greatest performance gain, but may cause you emissions testing troubles. By passing any two is pretty loud and all three is pretty much only for track use as near as I can tell from what I've seen in this forum. There are lots of threads discussing each of these by-passes and, as this is a popular subject, I'm sure you'll get many more responses here.

G PIPE is a nice sound but not real noisy for everyday driving

The primary pipe replacement behind the rear bumper is called a cup pipe
because it was used on the Cup cars. The reason for using the cup pipe is because it gives performance increase.
The G pipe is for noise.
Pick which benifit you want and get the appropriate part !

Gary, I was just thinking about you as I browsed the CVR DE listings!
I need to figure out how to secure the preamp in the boot and I'm good to go. Are you going to be there for the 3/31 event?
I'm all fixed up and ready to go!

(sorry for the hi-jack)
