Default FVD Airbag wheel installed - pics inside

I love it! Especially how thick it is. At 3 & 9 positions I can just get my hands around it. It is awesome. I ended up sourcing a crest from ebay/ very nice.

The wheel was on sale at FVD a few weeks back. It is the Silberfeil model. Also, I paid the extra for the hub to be leather. Only approx $50 more and very nice/ worth it.

I rotated the speedo to get better few of the important range.........
Other than that no issues with gauge visibilty.

Nice thick steering wheel but the stick on crest looks too much "stick on".

I actually like the crest. I wonder if you would have noticed if he never said it was stick on.

Yep!! Put it this way, if the airbag goes off what do you think will happen to your nice little metal stick on crest. A really nice projectile.

CWay27 - I suppose you are right about the projectile. The correct method of attachment would help. Smokers should keep that in mind.

I could not disagree more. When airbags deploy, the horn pad deploys to the side, like a tin can lid. Not straight at the driver. I discussed this topic in depth with local Denver senior Porsche mechanic and PCA guru, as well as FVD engineer, prior to making my decision to go with their wheel.

There is no possible way this crest will fly off the horn pad. It is really strong bond adhesive. I pre-cleaned area with alcohol wipe. It is very well "stuck on"

Do as you like my friend but keep in mind that your tin can effect is happening at close to 100MPH (speed of deployment). If your crest is dead center on the airbag, on which side will it gently fold??? The reality is that it doesn't matter cause with this speed of deployment, tin can effect or not, you'll end up with a nice crest in your face.

Maybe your porsche GURU can answer this. If your crest is no arm to you nor affect airbag integrity, how come no manufacturer is using them instead of engraved signs?? Just to be on the safe side, why don't you write the airbag manufacturer letter asking them if you can glue a metal crest without screwing up the integrity of it.

Well, it it is called an "airbag" - not a "here's a hard plastic horn pad straight in your face bag"..........little crest will have zero effect on whatever will happen.

BTW - the Porsche mechanic I speak of is THE most senior and respected P-car guy in my state (Colorado). He is a cheif mechanic at one of our most respected dealerships and one of the best people I know amongst ALL of our local PCA chapter. Everyone, including the absolutely awesome p-car only shop I go to often calls Dave on anyting they need help on, as does just about everyone esle.

Curious, what is your expertise with airbags? Other than being one? (just kidding! I realize you mean well) .

Being a senior mechanic in Colorado makes him a specialist in airbags!! My experience with airbag is seeing my brother minutes after a head on collision and being on the scene. After deployment, the airbag cover looks more like a bag that exploded, that's why some of them have lines or a pattern of lines that will help the shell to rip open upon deployment.

Anyways enough said and hope you'll never have to use it.

P.S. Thanks for the compliment but just for the sake of it, just email the manufacturer and ask them what they think and will they still honor their liability in case of deployment.

Wheel looks great and safer than a 18 year old bag. Enjoy.

How do these bags blow? The OE wheels I have seen are hinged top or bottom. The crest would very likely fly upward or downward if it were to come loose...

The airbag itself does enough damage to your face... it hurts. a lot.
They should make the bags softer

Nice wheel!
