Old fuel detonating? Does anyone know any history of this?
Be ready for $15k if the mechanic has to do this top end for you.
If you have the inclination and patience , do it your self.
$15K Is this true........... I was told $2000 for labor on a top end re-build. I hope the parts for a top end re-build don't cost $13K. I'll have to do some research on this. $15K maybe @ the Local Porsche dealership......

It sounds more like the cylinder to head mating surface has burned through, usually from running lean rather than detonation. Old fuel and turbos on boost is never a good combination.
You Sir have some good info.
How would I go about fixing a problem like cylinder head mating?????
Wow! The thing that stands out on this thread for me is that there was a 500hp+ 964 standing around for two years with no one driving it! Crazy.
Cheers
Alex
Tell me about it. My dad is crazy like that. The car is awesome. She is a 1992 Black 964 C-4 with a Turbo conversion from TPC. She has a ton of motor work, Suspension work, cup car brakes, full roll cage,Momo race seats,Can Can Red carpet, Can Can Red RS door panels,Black RSR Carbon tail, and 3 piece HRE wheels....
I just could not take seeing this car sit anymore. so I bought her of my dad.
He is now finished with his 1100 HP twin turbo 04 Cobra. I would love to race him after I get the turbo out of the shop. I think the only way I would have a chance is with the AWD of the C-4 against his over powered V8.

You really have to wait to see what damage has occured before you can get a plan to move forward. I'm sure you'll have several options to consider when fixing it. Is this by any chance black?

Yes she's a Black 964. If that's what your asking?
15 k is way high for a top end rebuild .
15 K is way way high if you only need to fix up one cylinder .
I guess from a million miles away , you need one cylinder fixed up .
I guess that all 5 of the others are ok .
I guess that you will buy another used cylinder head and or one cylinder .
Haveing one cylinder go bad does not mean that the others need repair .
Eric is your car still at ZOTZ? Maybe i will go by and check it out friday afternoon after work if it is.
Hey jim it's still @ Zotz.
LMK when you going to go and I'll meet you up there so we can chat.
Thanks guy I hope to know more today. Talk about a quick learning curve. I've been getting some good reading from this forum. Again thanks for all of the input.
I drove by the garage today and they have not really touched. It looks like it's going to be a couple of days before they drop the motor out and dig into her.
I could tell you about it , or you could read whats already been written up on the blackstone site .
What I will say is that it is a very cheap test to have done and the info in hand after, priceless .
Before you let them take anything apart , I strongly advise you get the leakdown tests done and the oil test done . This motor is freaking expensive , getting all the info from some cheap easy tests can save you some really big dollars .
If the engine is a Turbo engine and you have hissing after running the car on boost, it is more than likely there is significant damage to one or more cylinders.
