Mine are red on top and satin (semi-gloss) black below. I repainted the satin black last summer. I tried three different brands of spray paint and selected the one that matched color and gloss the best.

Jerry - They turned out great. I just checked my garage, the paint that matched the best was Rustoleum's Satin black. I bought it at my local hardware store. I had my rockers off to replace the rubber stripping. I sanded the black area with 220 sandpaper, then masked off the red area with newspaper and masking tape. I then wiped down the black area with a paint prep solvent to remove any oils and dust. Then sprayed two coats. I waited a day and the reinstalled. They turned out so good that I decided to touch up the black area behind my rear wheels too. They were looking shabby compared to the "new" rockers. Total cost $10. I'm very glad I did it.

It appears there is no reasoning or pattern to why some cars have them black and others are body colored. So far Chris and my Amazon green cars have body color and I know of a few turbos that have original factory paint and some are body colored and some are satin black.

I just ordered the new seals for the top edge of the rockers and will remove the panels to replace them. Now the question is what looks better color coded or black? I think I like both.

Opinions?

BTW thanks on the compliments. I do need to change my avatar soon. I will get to it.

Sal, Car looks great, I need some studio pro photos like that myself.

For the record....
painted Amazon to match the body
I may be wrong but I thought it was an option from the factory to have body colored rocker panels.

So that is 3 for 3 on Amazon body color rocker panels. I don't see anything in the codes unless it falls under the 09991 exclusive program.

Sal 965,

How did you get the photo of the yellow 911 to look so cool? Wonderful foto. Was it done in a studio? Or is it out of a magazine?

Cobalt,

Both the RS America (polar silver) and the wide body (white) have the flat black, just as your turbo.

Black.
Kinda like black being "slimming", someone told me a long time ago that having them black makes the car look lower to the ground, I guess because the merging of the rocker, the dark shadow underneath and the black road itself. I'll buy that.

Mine are that original flat/semi-gloss black on the bottom.
However, I think I like them painted all the same body color...

Post all cats are black in the dark -- only some more so than others...

Keith V. was relaying to me, not so long ago, that,
a) all the colors of the (stock) RSA group were satin-black on the rocker panels., except for...
b) the Black cars -- which had gloss black on theirs.
I'd say that's a pretty fast & sweeping rule for the 964 series, as a group.
And one corroborated by most tales, above...

(except for that most-peculiar [& nice!] yellow car.)

-Lonnie

oh,yeah -- as noted in earlier posts, bedliner spray makes a dandy rocker panel touch-up.
Just don't let on to anyone later whatcha used. (No small few will upturn nostril.)
