Hi i did a search on this subject and saw that a couple of you have made your own brake lines. Do you know what size the tubing is??? How did you make the bubble flare at the ends???? Porsche wants 47.00 for each line which is nuts to me. Im sure i can make my own. Anyone with experience please help me.
I'm not really sure what size I bought, though it may be 4mm?? I took a section of pipe to a local motor factors and said, give me some of this, and oh and some fittings like this.......nickel copper IIRC.
cost about 50c/ft in pipe and 40c per fitting.....Used a Proper brake flaring tool for making the ends (Draper?), cost about $20 I make that a fine deal, and it's handy because I don't worry about mashing any pipes up when removing callipers etc, I even made the clutch slave cyl fixed part as well...
I just returned from being out of town for the holidays, so sorry I did not get to your PM til today.
I purchased 12" lines from AutoZone that already had the flares and connectors attached. I then made a tool on the bandsaw for making the curves. The lines should run you about $6.00

Ok tgage thanks, i was at autozone and saw the lines with the bubbles already on them but i didnt have any idea how long they needed to be, you think 12 inch lines are ok???? I have a 911 turbo so it may be a little different from your car. Do they have to be the exact length or can you just bend give them a few extra bends to make them fit????
Yes, 12" is about what it works out to be on the C2/C4. Turbo should be the same...but Mark is correct... I did exactly as he describes. Good luck! BTW, while you are at it, braided lines?

What lines are you replacing? The short hard lines all have an MSRP between $11-$12USD so they are available for ~$5-6USD. This is the same price as buying raw pipe from Autozone but the porsche lines are also higher quality (copper-nickel alloy called Cunifer) and include a thick anti-corrosion coating. You also save $10-20 from not having to buy a pipe-bending tool. I'll admit it is a fun tool to play around with.

Jason are you serious whered you see these prices, the guy at porsche quoted me 47.00 a piece????
I would just buy those if thats how much they cost but i have to admit it seems like it could be kinda fun to just make them. But the ones in the pic dont look near long enough to fit my car.

The prices I posted are the MSRP from the latest North American price list. There is always a chance the parts guy looked up the wrong part numbers... Some dealerships will charge more than retail if they think they can, often having three or four different prices for the same part depending on the customers status (walk-in, phone-in, dealer serviced, regular). I would try to avoid those dealerships and any others that pay their service advisors on commission!

The perspective of the shot makes the rear hard brake line look shorter than it actually is.

Is this guy amazing or what? Figures the Porsche part would be a bit different and higher quality.
Nice to have you around Jason.
Well i was at porsche dealer and i looked at the computer screen and this time he quoted me $87.00 for the fronts EACH. Whats the deal????? As best as i could tell it was the right part from the picture.

Did you give them the part numbers I posted? The $47 you were quoted was for the brake caliper crossover lines and not the hardline you're looking for. The $87 they quoted you today was for the hard line that runs from the front to the back along the center tunnel, again not what you want. At this point I would avoid your local dealer. PelicanParts charges MSRP ($11.50) or you can order from Sunset Imports for probably half that.
