Hard Brake lines
Hi i did a search on this subject and saw that a couple of you have made your own brake lines. Do you know what size the tubing is??? How did you make the bubble flare at the ends???? Porsche wants 47.00 for each line which is nuts to me. Im sure i can make my own. Anyone with experience please help me.
Thanks

Jerry,
I'm not really sure what size I bought, though it may be 4mm?? I took a section of pipe to a local motor factors and said, give me some of this, and oh and some fittings like this.......nickel copper IIRC.
cost about 50c/ft in pipe and 40c per fitting.....Used a Proper brake flaring tool for making the ends (Draper?), cost about $20 I make that a fine deal, and it's handy because I don't worry about mashing any pipes up when removing callipers etc, I even made the clutch slave cyl fixed part as well...

Ok tgage thanks, i was at autozone and saw the lines with the bubbles already on them but i didnt have any idea how long they needed to be, you think 12 inch lines are ok???? I have a 911 turbo so it may be a little different from your car. Do they have to be the exact length or can you just bend give them a few extra bends to make them fit????
Thanks also warmfuzzies......

take a piece of wire or string and trace the line you want to replace. Measure it, bada-bing...
I'd buy a small (and cheap BTW) tubing bender to copy the old line. Looks like this:http://www.amazon.com/Summit-SUM-900...9?ie=UTF8&s=hi
or this: http://www.amazon.com/KD-Tools-KDT25...8&s=automotive
Or this: http://www.amazon.com/Wilmar-Tubing-...8&s=automotive
Or make your own as previously mentioned

Yes, 12" is about what it works out to be on the C2/C4. Turbo should be the same...but Mark is correct... I did exactly as he describes. Good luck! BTW, while you are at it, braided lines?

Jason are you serious whered you see these prices, the guy at porsche quoted me 47.00 a piece????
I would just buy those if thats how much they cost but i have to admit it seems like it could be kinda fun to just make them. But the ones in the pic dont look near long enough to fit my car.

This is the same price as buying raw pipe from Autozone but the porsche lines are also higher quality (copper-nickel alloy called Cunifer) and include a thick anti-corrosion coating. You also save $10-20 from not having to buy a pipe-bending tool. I'll admit it is a fun tool to play around with.

Is Jason amazing, or what?
Is there a 964 part that Jason does not have a picture of?
I think we should start a new thread "Let's Stump Jason"
Many THANKS, Jason, for all of your contributions. This forum is simply outstanding.
