Default 1991 C4 Questions

Hi this is my first post here. I know that the information on this board is beyond helpful. I am looking into a few different cars but today I found one I think I am going to buy but it has a few minor issues. I could use some help and maybe a little guidence.

When I arrived to look at the car it had a dead battery but had been driven earlier in the day. I looked at the battery to see its condition and it looked to be ok or clean and was a porsche # battery. The car has been sitting a while so it may be dead and in need of replacement. This is no big deal. On to the next problem.

No heat. When a booster pack is placed on the battery to get it started the heater blower works until the pack is removed. The car runs awesome but still no heat.

I want to purchase this car BAD but this scenerio is holding me back. Given the price of $21.5K AS IS I get a little nervous of this being a bigger problem although on the surface it appears to be something minor.

Any advice on how to deal with this would be gratly apreciated. Should I buy a new battery mtyself and put it in to see if the problem passes?

???......

Welcome. No dont buy somebody else a new battery! If he wants to sell it he needs to have a battery in it that works or walk away. The Heat can be something as simple as a stuck servo motor under the hood or a diverter flap thats stuck.

Pre-purchase inspections by someone familiar with 964s is a must. I'm not a technical guy, so I can't offer advice on your particular issue, but I'd really recommend you finding someone locally to check the car out for you. This month's Excellence Magazine has Bruce Anderson's annual pricing info on 964s. In the accompanying article, he discusses known issues with 964s that you should be on the look out for. Good luck, they are awesome cars!

if the battery is dead after running earlier in the day, the problem could be a bad battery cell or a bad alternator or a short caused by any number of Porsch electronic energy sucking parts. Porsche's are tough on batteries when they are not in use. You should get a battery trickler that plugs into an outlet and keeps the battery charged when not in use, about $60.
The lack of heat could also be a number of issues, stuck servo motor( easy to fix), rear compartmet blower which can be replaced for $400, or any number of valves that controls the heat exchange produced heat. In other words, don't buy the car unless it starts, runs and everything works. These babies cost enough just in normal wear and tear usage. The price is good but there are a lot of great 964's available if you look deep enough. Get your hands on a PCA Panorama magazine and look in the classified ads.

I think I just struck a deal. 20.5 the way it sits. This will be my 5th Pcar. This car drives like it should and runs like a top. Yes some minor issues exist and I will put the time into it. The metalic paint is so nice.....
