SCM just did a piece on the 959 versus the '73 RS -- incredibly these two are converging on price. Market today for a 959 is strictly "own it, don't drive it." And who knows how long before they begin an appreciation cycle.

Um - if you're selling a $225K car couldn't you get the fault code looked into?

Jeff: rarity, condition, exclusivity... too bad you can't drive one in the US yet

Can't you drive them to shows and such if you keep the mileage under 1000mi per yr?

Still, I'm with Christer. I would want to drive it everyday.

Besides the fault code, would it be too hard to go out and find / buy / steal a lighter for a $200,000 car? It just shows lack of care to me and that would make me worry.

The biggest problem for most 959s is lack of use ! That brings with it all kinds of stuff. Suspension seals dry out, water sytem develops leaks etc, etc. All of that is OK until you get to parts prices . Just one of those, " if you have to ask you cannot afford " situations ! .
Fantastic cars and seriously quick 20 years later . This was the Porsche technical showcase and has to be worth $200K .Certainly on my wish list.

Its all about rarity. Same reason a Plymouth Hemi Cuda convertible is now selling for upwards of two million dollars. In terms of performance, the Cuda is a heavy tank that can't brake or turn, with a heavy boat anchor for an engine, but with less than 20 ever built, the few that come up for sale command insane prices.

Any of the new Porsche Turbos or GT3/RS is a "better car" than the 959. That's not the point of value, though. The 959 was special in its day, rare, and to some, a milestone of automotive development. For those reasons, they are valuable.

I've seen a few in person and they are very cool.

I also think you can legally drive them in the U.S. now under the show car exclusion (3000 mile/year limit?).

So these idiots have somehow come to have this $200K+ car and they can't even take it to the nearest dealer to have it checked out or made 100%...assuming a US dealer could help of course.

Be afraid....be very afraid.
