959 service is only available at a few places ( 4 ? ) in the world !! Not sure if Porsche ever had a 959 service point in the USA !
This is a very exclusive automobile !!

Notice the seller has ZERO feedback.

I would think that if anyone were even thinking about buying this car, they're not going to bid for it on ebay. They're going to jump on a plane and fly out there to see it (probably with their trusted P-car technician accompanying them). Therefore, the feedback is irrelevant.

You really see this more and more. I don't think they seriously expect to sell it through an eee-Baby auction, but it provides some good exposure. It does create a lot of buzz - got us talking, right?

It amazes me that it has 36,000 miles, if that is correct. Where and how? How did it get here? I'd like to hear its story.

The $2M 'Cuda has even the brokers scratching their heads. They figure the bottom has to drop out of that market at some point, and somebody will be left holding the bag. The guy who bought it insists it's a great investment. But silly baby-boomers are even paying stupid money for clones of those cars - that's the signal to beware. I'd much rather have this car. It's in a completely different class.

The 36k is in km not miles (according to the text).
That's more like 22k mi.
You're comment still holds, of course.

Ah yes, right you are.

I think the “Drive Control System” warning means "time to sell it to the next bidder".

Depends on which source you quote. One book I have says a total of 284 were built and another says 229 were built (FIA regulations required at least 200 to be built). Not sure about how many went to UK. There were two versions - street trim and race trim. It weighed 3194 pounds in street trim. The 959 had 450 horse power from a 2.85 liter sequentially twin turbo charged engine. 0-60 was quoted as 3.6 to 3.9 seconds (again, depending on your source) and it could top close to 200 mph. It had 17x8 wheels in the front and 17x9's in the rear.

It was designed to compete in the group B rally class. In 1986, three 959's competed in the Paris-Dakar rally and finished in positions 1, 2, and 6. The road racing version was known as the 961 and ran at LeMans in 1986 finishing first in its class (7th overall). In the 1987 LeMans race, the engine blew and the car caught fire and didn't finish.

Interestingly, the 959 sold for about $200K new in 1986 and its production was immediately sold out. Some people paid as high as $300K to get one. Rumor had it that four were imported into the US as gray market. The 959 is generally recognized as more of a brand-building success than a racing success.

It's funny - when I was a kid in London, a guy around the corner used to have a silver 959. I thought they were really common cars - he used it for years as a daily driver and by god did it look like it. Kerbed alloys, dings all over the place, never washed, but every day rain or shine I'd see him climbing in and driving off. Says more about the car than any museum-piece ever could.

Wonder how many F40s saw even 1/50 of that 959's use...

Thats the way to use one . Porsche GB is an official service centre. I used to see them there, in for a service.
Usual sight was on a lift , wheels, suspension off . Boxes of power levelling dampers , maybe a radiator - a nightmare to change , etc , etc. All this because the car was just not used . The bill estimate was seriously horrendous .
Taught me that the 959 like everything else needs to be used to keep in shape .
Cant even begin to justify it but still number one on the wish list for me !!

IMHO i just cant see the attraction myself, even though it would eat ours for breakfast it just doesnt seem to have the same sex appeal as the 964.
