Default Remove Undercoating????

Anyone remove undercoating...if so can you give some info on the process, etc...

Also, anyone know how much the undercoating actually weighs?

Do you mean the underpaneling throughout the length of the car itself?

also, did you paint your reflector, or use vinyl....and did you replace the reflector with plexiglass or is that just the standard reflector still? either way looks great

and last question, sorry off topic, do you mind telling me where to sourch the rear bumper from?

undercoating is generally in the 20-30lb range (varies)
to get it off you typically need to either freeze and scrape it off or sandblast it.
i would not suggest it on your car if that is the thought unless your going to take it completely apart and start over.
the feezing method could be done w/o doing this but.......

I removed all of the undercoating and seam sealer off of my race car by acid dipping the chassis. This removes everything, paint included so I don't think this process is what you were looking for. The reduction in weight was 80bs if I recall correctly.

I've tried various methods but the best for me was a heat gun and painters scraper. You will need a lot of patience.

I watched a 356 promotional video over the weekend that showed the exact undercoating process. They said it was 25lbs worth on that car as well.

I posted that way back when my car was in 100 pieces...so still was curious....I have no intention of taking it apart again, anytime soon. I had heard 100lbs for all the stuff and figured if anyone had the # it would be Geoffrey or Bob Linton....I think its too extreme for the street, I'm already sans sound deadening and other stuff.

Re: rear reflector...its aluminum. Rear bumper is oe...nothing special about it.

Yea, for a street car, I like the interior to be quiet and the ruberized undercoating does protect the chassis from getting stone blasted which results in rust eventually.

Hey, just looking at your avitar, the rear reflector delete is begging for s subtile "PORSCHE" script...

Yeah, I thought of that...but then where would I stop. I'm gettin clear bra on the hood in the next few days and I've got 2 different decal crests I could put on....I think I'll pass altogether. Although I think Black Carrera script could look good etc. etc.....Guess I'm too chicken to do anything else at the moment...EXCEPT I think I'm going to do some drilled door handles....just to be a full on R geek.....Actually think they'll look the biz.

When you acid dip the car, it removes the paint, undercoating, seamsealer, cosmoline, everything. All of that adds up to the 80lbs or so.
