Default Suspension, has this ever been done??

Does anyone know if it is possible to fit a whole 993 rear end suspension set-up(Weissach arm) etc to a 964?

Has anyone ever done it? If so what is required?

A friend has stripped a 993 so I know the source, there is no damage to the parts. I'm more concerned about attaching the Wessaich arms to the body....

Thanks

I would guess it's possible if you basically weld the rear end of a 993 on but you would be crazy to do so and it would be far cheaper to just buy a 993! None of the suspension points match and you would have to fabricate from scratch. You would just ask why bother all the time. But never say never!

Agreed - may be better off sourcing a ratty 993 and figuring out how to get the sheet metal backdated than try to get the Weissach axle into a 964, IMHO.

Well it was just a thought....

I haven't looked under a 993 or 964 recently to see what's different and where. The 993 Weissach axle just bolts to the 993 chassis at four points. I know I would need to use my original dampers as mine are shorter 90 versions but I thought the rest may bolt up with the appropriate mods to the bodyshell.
My car is a bit of an RS clone with most of the correct parts, I just fancied a way of possibly improving the handling with the 993 rear end.........

Any one got any pictures of under a 993 where the frame mounts ??

I thought about this some time ago but life took over ! Just had a look at Porsche 964/993 manuals Vol V Body.
Back to and including the the lower rear pickup points the body mounting dimensions are the same !From there on there are differences. The strut top seperation is wider on the 993 etc but the rear motor mounts look to be in the same place. Best plan would be to put the 993 subframe on a 964 shell and see where the problems are and if they can be fixed.
One major deal will be the 993s rear track and how you get the wheels under the body without a major 993 suspension link redesign !
Lets us know what you find .

Good luck

Geoff

I think maybe I'm expecting this to be too easy. My engine/ supension etc is still in the car. I don't have the luxury or money to go down the experimentation route. I guess niavely I expected the dimensions to be like for like as the bodyshells are similar and that only the fenders/wings would be different. Is a 993 track wider than a 964?

I think I will probably just have to forget about it as the benefits are probably not worth the effort/cost/modifications of the shell etc?
