Related question on wheel sizes and offsets...I want to get a set of 18s for my 1990 964 for the track (lowered track set-up car) and wanted to know what sizes would be the largest I could comfortably run (no rubbing or need to roll fenders) and what offsets they should be to avoid having to run spacers. To my knowledge I should be looking for an 8" in the front and either a 9.5" or a 10" in the rear. I used to have a set that fit that was 10" in the rear (ET47 if I remember correctly) but it was just too big to fit with the car lowered and would rub on the inside if I tried to dial in sufficient negative camber. Since then I've been hesitant to go with a 10" as it just seemed too big for the space in the fender well.
Would be interested to know what people run for this application and whether there are any Porsche wheels off newer cars that will work well.
Thanks.

A relatively cheap, reasonably lightweight alternative wheel you might consider is the 17" Cup II, 7&9X17 with 55mm offset. Lots of them currently for sale ... at around $800 total. You'll need spacers on the rears, but won't have to roll your fenders. Some think they look a little strange on a 964.

Dave, that is very helpful. Thanks. On the rear, I take it that there isn't really any extra space on the inside. Sounds like I shouldn't go beyond 9.5 in the rear as I'm also running around 3 degrees. Are you running a 265 or a 275 on the rear?
I actually have two sets (one street, one track) of 7.5 and 9 x 17 Cup II MMs for the car currently...can't remember the offsets at the moment as I'm not near the car but they fit perfectly w/o spacers. Not great wheels, but inexpensive and I stumbled upon them fitting perfectly when I tried them on from an old late-offset 944 I had had them on previously. Would like to eventually get something a little larger in there, but my impression is that not a lot of 18" wheels come on the market that fit the 964.

Harry,
My rears are 265. I can rather easily put a finger between the top of the tire and the top edge of the fender ... so maybe JUST fit was incorrect. I guess "comfortably" fit might be a more accurate discription.

As you know the only Row Cups in this country were imported privately
sheesh

Forgive the question, a bit OT (should try to look it up), but Cup cars have the same fr A-arms and rr Trailing arms except w/ different metal? harder rubber? bushings compared to standard narrow body 964, right? So, should be able to run Cup Car wheels on a standard 964 correct?

965 362 126 01 Felge (Rim) 8x17 1,165 No idea if that's Euro's, DM, or $
965 362 128 05 Felge (Rim) 9,5x17 1,315 again, no idea of currency.
They also have the 18's listed as well (initially they ran 17's, then changed to 18's)
965 362 136 00 Felge (Rim) 8x18 2,230.00
965 362 138 05 Felge (Rim) 9,5x18 2,160.00
I also have a hardcopy article by Adrian on 'Wheels adn tyres for the 964 series':
Cup Design 92:
965 362 126 00 8Jx17 52 offset
965 362 126 01 8Jx17 52 offset
965 362 128 05 9.5Jx17 68mm offset, needs spacers.
I run the 68mm rears with a 21mm spacer P/N 477.501.701. I bought these spacers from Oaklahoma Foreign, $25.00
Hope this helps.

Some of the confusion on cups has to do with year. 92 and later cups were based on the euro 964 RS chassis, and shared the mag wheels. The cars raced in the '93 supercup series ran 18" speeliness (I can get exact part numbers). Cups prior to 92 were not based on the RS (didn't exist yet). Those ran the alum cup 1 wheels as bill said.
Dave - I have a full set of the these 17s available from my 3.3 turbo. Let me know if you are interested. They have scrubbed only RA-1s.
