I think that's one of their perminent magnet alternators commonly used in racing. IIRC, they do them for motorbikes so I wonder if Humpty Dumpty reference is because its for something you can fall off!!!
I am also guessing that you have drilled some extra holes to save even more weight because I would be suprised if McLaren would leave the holes unanodised.

Simon,
Humpty Dumpty is a long running project which has taken a unique 964 and rebuilt just about all of it with the most amazing bits of kit. Run a search for Humpty Dumpty and be prepared to spend a few hours dribbling over your keyboard with green tinted vision.

Actually, its one of two one-off McLaren lightweight motors for the oil cooler cooling fan and the air conditioning condenser cooling fan.
P.S. The same logo is on HD's starter and alternator -- the starter weighs barely 5 lbs and the alternator less than 7.

Can't get a sense of size from the photos, but knowing now what they are, wow!
What is the difference in weight from the stock items?

There was mention of a session he did back in June of 2004 in PA for the Riesentoter Region but I never saw details on that. There was also an unveiling he was planning. Due to health reasons it looks like that has not taken place. I hope Robert is doing much better and the invite to see the car materializes.
He has offered to tell the story, rather than writing it here, if you just give him a call. However, it would be better if a meeting/get-together is organized to go and see the car and hear the man tell the complete story. It would be a worthwhile trip.
Many of us here keep an eye for any of Robert’s posts to get a glimpse of the car. It was been in a few books as well but only with brief comments, never covered in full detailed (specially after all the work he has done to it). The amount of people involved, the work with Porsche, some of the mystery, the use of the technology in racing, etc… We are really fortunate to have him share time, comments, and photos with this global community.
