Default Symptoms of the required valve adjustment

I'm a newby 964 owner and was wondering if their are symptoms that you can hear, smell, see, etc regarding the required valve adjustment. Or should you just get them done every 7-15k miles/20k kM.

Follow the scheduled plan. You'll never be sorry and the money is well spent. If you can hear it...you may have waited too long. If you don't have any records for the last valve adjustment, perhaps now is the time to start with a major service and a well deserved peace of mind.

I am debating if I should tackle the job my self or have it done...How much does it typically run?

I was quoted $630 plus parts - I'm planning to have mine done later this month.

tick tick tick tick- but a little louder. Drive next to a wall, like on the interstate, and listen for the ticking.

Valve adjustment is definately in the preventive maintenance category. Too loose and you hear the ticking. Too close, and you hear nothing but risk a burned valve. Stay on schedule, and you will avoid problems.

OK. I follow the schedule religiously. My last adjustment was only 3000 miles ago and it seems to me that I am hearing more ticking from the left side of the engine. Almost sounds like one valve, but I don't know.

Is it possible for a mechanic to not tighten the retaining nut on the adjustment screw enough....causing the valve to go out of adjustment too quickly or am I being paranoid?

Thanks.

Tick tick tick like a sewing machine, you will not miss it!

The 964 has no hydraulic valve adjustment so you need to get it adjusted every 24K or less. I had mine done in the service. You do need a special tool to adjust it.

Eddy.

I'm hoping it will be just under double that when I do mine this winter. I have to double all my estimates for my CFO (wife)
