Default Damned Stones@!!!!!!

On the way home tonight, I took a stone to the right headlight!!! Cracked and in pieces now. Ordered a new from sunset, but I'm just curious if I got a good price- $197. Glass piece only; shouldn't have the basket on the back.

Must be the week for stones. I took one the other night off the tire of a semi in a construction zone. Mine hit almost dead center in the middle of the windshield. My new windshield is scheduled to arrive at the shop on Monday. I hate rocks.

Geoff... Get the 80mm thick (I think), optically clear stone guards. They have saved me on a number of occasions! From a few feet away you can't even tell they are on the headlights...

And to think I thought this thread had something to do with Keith Richards...

Andy... I feel your pain... I need to replace my windshield too.

At least it wasn't your windshield like mine......

I got the chip repaired, but you can still see it.

Price seems high. I got two new headlight glass lenses for £40 / $70ish from a supplier, Jasmine Porschalink in Nelson, UK. Not sure what shipping would be to the US though but must be cheaper and you'd have another as a spare.

Oops! Good spot Craig.

I'm sure LHD lenses can be purchased though. I saw them for sale on a few UK websites when I was looking for a set for driving in Europe so i wouldn't have to use the awful black lense stickers.

I think the euro lenses also have a cow/sheep spotter in them, don't they? I probably got taken for a few bucks, but I also need it before next weekends fall tour- hitting Horicon Marsh area. I can't be without. Damned stones@!!!!

Uh, I hope that is 8.0 mm as 80mm is over 3 inches thick - that would stop a bullet.

I think 3M make these stone guards and I got mine at Perf. Products.

Sorry to hear Geoff

My car got hit the other day on the highway @#%@#$@#$ by a rock smack in the middle of the windshield... this was after coming back from an inspection by the insurance company (they ask to inspect the car every time I put back the comprehensive/collision coverage... ...and good thing I put it back! I initially removed it thinking that the car was going to sit pretty in the garage but turns out that by doing 10K (964) and 5K (996TT) I pay the the same amount for both car with full coverage...). It could probably be repaired and not require a new windshield... we will see... That is two accidents in less than two months (first the piece of metal that took out a side sill and now the windshield)...

Anyway on another topic, I took the car to the Porsche dealer for an all wheel alignment (since I recently installed new tires) and man! what a difference it makes. Setting at the back were way off and was eating the old tires in the inside...that is what I get for not checking alignment at least once a year. Feels a lot better on the curves.

On the topic of the clear headlight films------
I recently ordered some, and was about to put them on, and noticed that the headlights had "notches" (for lack of a better word) that protrude from the glass piece. How do you guys handle installing the clear film on the lights? Or did you order pre-cut films specifically for the car.

And Geoff, don't forget to cover the foglights..........

The one's I had for the H5's were pre-cut. The H4's I have now don't have the bumps so don't need the notches.
