Default heater bypass: go or no?

so as most topics in this area, how many have done the heater bypass to the CF tube and eliminated the 15lb fan/anchor?
Likes and dislikes?
Issues with change?
most appreciated!

My $0.02 based on having done it:

If you drive the car on the street or in the rain, I would not recommend it. The defrost is really crappy without the fan and 15 lbs difference is not worth worrying about for anything other than a highly competative track only car.

I second that... I have it on my race car, but would never do that modification on a street car - I don't really see the point since it impacts your climate control significantly!

15lbs? Just use 3 less gallons of gas. Or take a lighter passenger for a ride

The rear blower motor assembly only weighs 5lbs. In addition to screwing with the passenger climate control the other thing you lose is the after-engine shutdown cooling. The temperature increases in the sealed enclosure over the engine and in the heat-exchangers AFTER you turn the engine off and the rear blower motor assembly helps to cool that back down.

How about going on a diet instead?

I have to agree the blower is not 15 lbs. I had mine off doing the shocks and I doubt it is much over 5 lbs. Not worth it unless you just want the super clean look.

Since I installed the cup pipe and posted on how to package the electronics to 'fool' the CCU that the motor was still there, I have a few thoughts.....first, if you go my route, it only works on later 964's. Porsche changed the CCU in, I believe 1991, so '92 and later cars can do the mod I did. In terms of effectiveness, it works fine. I have air when I need air, regardless of temperature dialed in. As pointed out, you do lose the fan automatically cooling the heat exchangers when shut down hot, however, when I had the entire stock setup, I never heard the fan cooling the heat exchangers.

As mentioned, it's only 4.x or maybe 5 lbs of weight. The biggest benefit is better access to the left side (as you look at it) of the engine.

You may not hear the fan where you are, but futher down south you sure do. The cab is so small that with out a good defroster you can really be in trouble.

this was the answer I was looking for! I saw the parts on Pelican and really liked the looks of the carbon tube/cleanliness of the left side of the engine bay. Based on the consistency of these replies, this is one mod I will skip. Thank you for the great answers.
