Default Anyone got close-up pics of their drilled air box?

Anyone got close-up pics of their drilled air box? Any advice? Are there differing approaches to doing this?

Thanks in advance.

Have a look here -
Porsche964.co.uk

Personally, I cut out a large square which is what was done on the Cup Cars.

I think there is a DIY on p-car.com, maybe I am wrong and it could be only for 993.

EDITED sorry I meant the same link as previous post, forget p-car.com

I had the drilled, then opted to cut it open like the cup box.

If I get a chance I'll snap a pic of mine. Its diff than the approach most take. Much less noisy, but still a bit throaty at full throttle.

I think the cup car originally came with the snorkel cover just like the street cars...most teams drilled them or cut them. I have seen data somewhere that shows no improvement in torque or HP by cutting or drilling. They sure do sound better however! Mine is drilled but with the snorkel still attached.

Is it possible to drill/cut AND remove the snorkel? Does removing the snorkel give more noise? I already have a drilled airbox but am always up for more noise!

Does this actually help? Adrian's book says that it definately doesn't.

Thumbs up

I purchased the Fabspeed Cup airbox open lid from Automotion.com.
I run this intake with a chip, and bypass primary muffler and the sound is great.
The experts state these upgrades yield a 17 horsepower increase over the stock 250 hp.

So Intake + Chip + Bypass = 17? So how much is intake?

Bob Scotto has done the work. It supports Porsche's. Who am I to argue? +

I use an air intake set up from Imagine Auto and it works great.

I think that freeing up the breathing a bit, with the holes, might help a bit, based on anactdotal evidence but everything I have read suggests there is no benefit from going too far, ie removing the snorkel or using the Fabspeed airbox.

Having said that, I haven't seen evidence to suggest that you get less power by doing those things either so if you like the noise, this might be for you.

Noise is a big issue on RS's and I cannot get on all the trackdays I would like to because of this. OK, I am running a decat and cup pipe set up with a drilled airbox so its never going to be quiet but I think I have more than enough noise for now

And here is yet another air intake attempt; any comments? (It is from the Porscheshop.co.uk : ("PowerFlow Induction Kit Porsche 911 964 Kits 5-7BHP")
