1990 C4 transmission problem
Finally found the source of my low frequency noise coming from the left rear of the car. Thought it was the left wheel bearing or CV joint, it appears to be the bearing on the transaxle as there is noticable play when I push it up and down at the flange at the transmission case. Has anyone changed out the bearing, it looks like it can be done with the transmission in the car. Pointers, tips, or an estimated cost would be appreciated.

Up and down right at the transaxle cover/flange. Definetly transaxle, no play on the right side. My workshop manual only shows C2 transaxle I'm also looking for the exploded view of a C4 G60 transaxle. Kinda want to know how involved before Ijump in and get to the point of no return.

It's fixed, both left and right bearings were bad, and CV boots replaced on left half shaft. Differential was removed with tranny in car. No more wop, wop, wop noise. Didn't do a DIY took it to my local specialist ( not really local, in Rochester, NY) Reiser Technik - no affiliation just a happy customer. For those interested he had just completed a C4 to C2 conversion
