Rear reflector and tail light change. Little difference.
I purchased a new set of rear reflectors and turn signal assemblies and was surprised to see they were not that much different in color.
After all this talk I expected a major change but i find it not all that drastic. I do admit it looks newer but not noticeable unless you point it out.
I am psoting pics of Before and after and the 2 reflectors side by side. tell me what you think?
Also does everyone have this wire in their left tail light well or was this added by my PO?
Please excuse the bad pics I dropped my camera and it is a bit messed up.

Oh sweet, is that a hood pull? I've never seen that in mine, but sure is a nifty thing to have (if I am guessing right).
I replaced my reflectors as well because they were filling with water. Their color leaves a lot to be desired.

I agree color could be better from the factory.

It does look newer but for $600+ I could have lived with it the way it was.
Marc, did yours have the cable pull or was the paint code written on your car like this?

Nope,
Original factory paint. Maybe they needed to code it because it was a special order paint. I guess the rear latch cable must have failed at one point so they added the other release cable.

Thank for the photos. I will stick with mine until pieces start to fall off... I was thinking of replacing it due to all the spiderweb cracks it is showing. I would just wait until it actually breaks before replacing it.

I ran across this article on the rear deck lid emergency opener. Not sure, Mine did not seem to have this cable. Might have come out on later than 91 cars.

I agree the new lights are not that much better than the old ones. I think Porsche used a cheap supplier for the 964 cars for their lamps. The quality even on the new parts is pretty bad.

If I found myself replacing the rear lights, I'd upgrade to a Euro center reflector with built in fog lights and install the 'missing' switch in the dash.

I did this on my RSAmerica and was happy with the results.

Anthony- what's up? When I bought my car a few years ago, it was a stock 13,000 mile garaged car from Florida. It basically didn't need anything, so I started getting very picky and decided to change out my rear reflector and side lights with new units, figuring maybe they got faded from the Florida sun. When they arrived, the difference between new and old was probably less than you show!! I was surprised, and figured the car must have really not seen much exposure to the sun over the years (confirming it was always garaged).
At any rate, I put the new lenses and reflector on, and sold the used ones on ebay. They were pretty much like new, and I got almost as much for the used ones as I paid for the new ones! I believe I bought them from Vertex. Keep the boxes for shipping (of course put them in another larger box as well for shipping so they don't get damaged) and sell your old ones on ebay- you'll get good money for them!
By the way, when washing the car (i.e. water hitting the reflectors directly), I still get a little bit of condensation. Nothing too bad, but I guess this happened even when the cars were new when washing with a hose, and as cars get older it happens from rain, humidity, etc.

Andrew,
I think Ebay is where these are heading. Other than the slight color change they are flawless.
