RSA #2 came to me w/ 130K in May 2004. No records, no evidence of anything being done (except it sure feels as if a lightweight flywheel has been installed). Now has 137K, of which 50% have been hard track miles. I think I've changed the oil twice.........

Over 250,000 miles (combined). Only one top-end job. Both with good leakdowns and no oil leaks.

Mine is 148k and it drives like a new car. Engine was rebuilt at 135k. The miles before engine rebuild depends on how many oil leaks you can live with.

Gee reading this I'm really glad I didn't buy a couple of Volvos now; I get the same mileage but get to hang with you guys instead a bunch of English college profs.

On second thought . . .

Just bought mine with 150.000 kms (around 94.000 miles) luckily these previous miles are mostly long road trips (less cold starts and less clutch wear) but I suppose I will have to do something to the engine in a couple of years time because now the car will have more city use

My first Porsche a 1990 C2 - it had 125k miles when I bought it, it leaked every where, ran great though. I had it rebuilt - then sold it. Overall car was awesome and left me wanting to purchase the next Porsche.

Long story short - at 125k - it was a great car, no major issues, I would think a Porsche in decent condition would last as long as it is maintained.

One of our customers recently purchased a 1989 C4 with 330,000 miles. Had fairly good service history with an total engine rebuild at 328,000. Runs fine.

Hello all,

I'm a newbie to the forum but not to Porsche or highline vehicles, this was the advice I was told on this very subject just a month or two ago.

The Porsche tec that I use and trust (fully) told me to only use 10W50 regular oil no semi or full synthetic. He said that when he cars were built from the factory, they came with normal oil and thats what the factory still to this day recommends that on our 964's.

He's been working for Porsche for the last 28 yrs at the same dealership and is one hell of a tec and a terrific person to boot.

I should know I own a dealership (for sale at the moment) and have made my living in the highline car & motorsports industry for the last 15 years, I've even spent time working for Porsche back in the day. I've met and seen tons of different tec's (very few are really the bomb, most are just parts throwers/guessers) and he really is the tops! I never have to worry about getting scammed, he even goes out of his way to fix things that he see and most of the time doesn't even change me or tell the service manager, so he can charge me (who is a compete ***) and every customer locally (Utah) knows it, people only still do business there because of Randy!

So I have followed his instruction even though I really would rather run Mobile one myself, but he also recommends that I change my oil every 3K also, I know, I know thats over doing it a bit but, our cars can be expensive to repair, to me oil changes are just cheep insurance! Thats my story for what it's worth, I'll be looking for a new shop (or should I say, super **** master tec) to replace Randy soon, we are moving back to Colorado so if anyone has any recommendations please, please speak up (PM me) and help a fella out!

Cheers. and sorry for the soap box
