Default Rear speaker grill options

I put Infinity reference 4x6s in my 91. These are a conical design instead of the side-by side plate design, so the grill doesn't snap into it like stock.

I think all it needs is an L-shaped insert to slide under the speaker in two places which would allow the stock grill to snap in. Maybe I can Dremel something, but it seems like someone should sell a kit. Even if I have to get new grills, I guess that's OK.

Thanks.

I put new 6x4's into my rear shelf, mounted underneath the shelf surface. I then cut the old speakers from the frame, and mounted the empty frame on the top surface in the stock location, where the speaker grills clipped into easily.

There's a 944 part - 944.555.159.00 - that I think you can use to mount any standard size 6x4, and use your existing grills. Here's the PET diagram of it:

Cool. That would be perfect.
Thanks!

I put Infinty 4x6's in mine as well. Grill would not snap on either, so I used 100% silicone caulk (clear) to "glue" the grill to speaker shelf. They stay in place and no one is the wiser! (caulk will come off clean too!)

Exactly what I did. Can't tell from the outside they were not snapped in place. It has been about 15,000 miles with no buzz, no loose cover, and no problem if any kind.

My grills are set on mine. no glue, no nothing. I figured they would rattle and drive me crazy (it was a temporary solution). A year + later they are still like that. I'll get around to it one of these days. hehe

This is the part you need. I fitted struggled to get any 6x4 speakers with grills. Bought some Infinity's without and a couple of these. Cost for the adaptor about £7 ea from an OPC.

No need for the evostik used by the PO.

The caulk option is an interesting one. I really don't want to blow a round of golf on two freaking pieces of plastic.
