Default Turtle Pics (interior)

I've had a few requests in the last month or so and I finally got time to take some pics as I was getting the Turtle ready for a race a couple weeks ago.

It's a work in progress but this is the current state of the interior. Carpet is partially in (because I was too lazy to remove the glue) and I'm ready to install the video stuff (if ChaseCam actually delivers it this week as promised).

The new front provides great air flow to the oil coolers (aux/left side shown)

The FAST System is a lifesaver on hot days. I could care less if it adds a couple pounds to the car.

Tom,
Looks great! Just like a P-car ought to look on the inside. Just the essentials! Is that a secondary oil cooler on the drivers side? Does is have a separate fan, or just blow by? What suspension is that ? Cross?

Yes, it's a Cargraphic aux cooler on the drivers side. No fans on the oil coolers anymore. I asked when they were first taken off thinking I would be rigging up a switch to keep them running at high. I was told (gently) that it's a race car now and you don't have to worry about air flow in bumper-to-bumper traffic. The airflow provided while racing is more than sufficient and the fans just restrict the flow. I've been out a number of times with track temps well over 100 and have never seen the temp get above 7-8 o'clock on the guage.

It a JIC-Cross suspension. I'm very happy with it and like it better than the PSS-9s I have on my 993.

It's hard to tell but they are big red's in stealth black up front. I had the wheels off to change pads and bleed the brakes. I'm currently running Pagid yellow in front and black in the back (for more bite). You can see the yellow pads pretty clearly.

Thanks Kenny. It's the Rennline lower dash replacement piece. Functional and saves a lot of weight.

Nice. You've got your very own 964/993 cupcar there.

Tom,
If you don't mind, what spring rates are you running with? are the shocks adjustible (single or double)? Is that the Cross "competition" setup? Did you consider any other setup - ie Moton, Leda, etc.
Reason I'm asking is that I'm switcing over to pure RACE mode and have not decided on a setup yet - Probably going with something simple like nonadjustible RSR Bilsteins revalved for springs in the 800-900f/1000-1100r (car (C4) has to weight 3197# without me). Mainly due to budgetary restraints. But the Cross does look good...

I think the fast system is an Igloo cooler to supply chilled water to your race suit?

John (mooty): I hated the looks with the interior stripped and all the glue. I spent a few hours with the 3M glue remover and decided it was not worth my time and effort. I bought the kit from appbiz and decided the 6 lbs or so was worth it to improve the asthetics. Its just cosmetic, most guys in my class have it completely stripped to the metal.

Phil: The FAST System is a cooler with a pump in it to circulate ice water into a t-shirt that has tubing sewn into it to keep you cool. There is a switch on the dash (to the right of the fire supression system) to control how fast the water flows. I fill the cooler with ice, add a bit of water and I'm good for most of the day when the temps are 100-110.

Dave: It is the Cross competition set-up with the mid-range springs. I bought it a couple years ago when i was an intemediate driver. I did not want too firm of springs for my abilities. I did not want Moton's or similar as they were a lot more money and require a lot more knowledge to get set-up corretly (too adjustable for me). I'm still happy with the choice. I like the basic adjustability and I do make some adjustments based on the track and conditions. I would avoid such firm spring rates as it makes the car much more difficult to drive (and I'm not there yet). My car is now 2535 lbs but when the Cross set-up was installed it was 2850 lbs (both are without me at an additional 185).

Bob: It still has plenty of your additions on it. It's just a bit lighter and faster than it was a year ago.

It's as beautiful as the first day I saw it at Infineon. How did you remove 300 lbs?

Eric: The 300 lbs is the "before" or old turtle vs. the after/new turtle. It came from going to fiberglass body panels, removing the lower dash and replacing it with the simple Rennline piece, removing everything from behind the gas tank (residual climate stuff), removing the last of the sound proofing from the cabin and generally removing everything else that was non-essential (headlights, oil cooler fans, fender liners, etc). Unfortunately I still need to loose 300-400 lbs more. That will be far from easy.

When will you start coming out to play with us at PRC events?
