Default radio static - just right front speaker

After replacing my original head unit in my 90 C2 I noticed static coming from the right side. I've been living with this for a while but I can't stand it any more. This is what I know, it is only the right front speaker. I don't get much a idle but the static comes in around 2,000 rpm and get louder by 4,000 rpm. It is a static sound, not a whine. The other speakers don't sem to have any static at all. Even with I move the balance and fader away from the right front I still hear it, it doesn't make a difference. Only when I disconnect the speaker does the static go away. It is not related to radio or CD, it is a constant, even when the volume is down. Only by making it very loud can I overpower the static. Any ideas? I had wondered about the noise supressor added after my model, but I never had a problem with the original unit and why only one speaker?

Bad connection - try just running new wires to the speaker - that's what I'd do

Bad earth, pull the speaker and check the connections.

Could it be a blown speaker?
I might also suggest a new chassis ground at the stereo. I had alternator noise in mine and re-grounded to a different location, under the passenger seat, where there was a factory ground. Noise is gone.

The connections to the speaker appear good. It is an original speaker so the surround is falling apart, but I don't think that could cause this. I have been looking for replacement speakers for a long time, but can't find anything that will fit with the stock grills. They all seem to come out too much. I will check the ground at the head. It is attached, but maybe not good at the other end.

try a new piece of wire.... or run that piece of wire from the good speaker over to the suspect speaker...

wire is definitely cheaper than a new speaker!

OK, Thanks for more things to try. I'll let you know what I find, it may have to wait until the weekend.

The stock speakers are of such poor quality and probably so old now, just replace them. Unless you already have.

It might be the fact that you routed the wire alongside an electrical current of some sort which is why it is only affecting that speaker - just a thought why not take the wiring away from its present route and see what happens.

That may very well cause your problem. The surround supports the speaker, and your driver may be contacting the coil at the base of the speaker causing the static. IMO. You may be able to replace the speaker and keep the existing grills. Note sure how the OE speakers are mounted. Mine are not original.
I was able to fit 6x9's in the rear deck by cutting out the factory holes. Sounds MUCH better. More bass.

I did swap the left and right speakers and still had the problem so it doesn't seem to be a problem with the speaker itself. That said, I plan to replace them anyway. I still have to trace the wiring and will look to see if it is placed against some other wire that could be causing interference.
