Default change headlights from left lane driving to right lane driving

Guys, who have delt this issue before, throw in some hints please!

I have my C2 from Japan now brought in Europe, so I faced this beaming-to-the-other-side headlights problem.
After dismantling those it seems to me that inner part is fine (or it's universal for both ways?) and it's only the matter of changing lens. Lens are very easy to take off, but not easy to find on sale separately. In the dealership they say that it all comes together and therefore costs much (around 350 euro each lamp).

Does someone know (experienced) the cheaper way of solving this problem? Where to look for, ebay? Some auctions in Germany?

I'm afraid the internals are NOT the same. Here in the UK we have to change the complete light unit to change from LHD to RHD. If you just change the lens the beam pattern is all wrong. It may depend who does the road worthiness test (like the MOT test here in the UK). You can buy LHD headlights for about €135 - the lens alone is no more that €40. Have a look here

Thanks, Dave!

I'll try that source.

I may not remember for certain now, but it seems that I saw on the inner side of the headlights the same arrows as you find on the lens, pointing to the right (LHD) direction, although the lens themselves have an opposite direction. And the beam pattern did look right for the RHD. Basically that made me assume that it's only the matter if lens.

Andrei,

Bear in mind that there is a possibility that someone, in the past, has done the same thing and change the lenses without changing the reflector!!

Wormzz,
To convert from LHD to RHD ,I have changed just the lenses with no problem .

You will need to reset the headlights with a headlight beam setting machine.

Certainly this has been done for years to convert LHD cars coming into the UK.

Hope that helps.

It works well - until you find a picky MOT tester who will fail the car on incorrect beam pattern. Been there - done it. New complete headlamps are the only solution for a correct beam pattern. That's not to say that a dodgy tester will pass anything. The MOT test has been tightened considerably in this area over recent years, so something which "got by" in the past won't neccessarily pass now.

Dave,
Last time I did this job was at a MOT station with the MOT inspector setting the beams !
He had no problem setting them to the correct pattern. Now I am puzzled !

All the best

Geoff,

As I said, I think much depends on the tester - some will pass it, some won't. I know when my car was tested in 2004 JZM took it to their local tester and he failed it - much to JZM's surprise too. A pair of new headlights and £160 down the tubes and it passed with flying colours!!

I think there is a big difference between "aim" and "pattern" and it depends on how detailed the tester wants to be in testing the lights. I'm sure some testers only check that the lights come on!!

It's the luck of the draw I think - sometimes you're lucky, sometimes you're not!!

Regards
