Default Ignition Lead Shock

Hi , Opened engine cover on my 1992 964 a few days ago (engine running) and noticed a leaf on my distributor cap. Reached in to remove it and BANG, I got several very large electric shocks, I felt like a spark plug. I know there is a lot of voltage in the ignition circuit, but I have never had a shock like this from a spark plug lead in years of messing about with many different cars. Is there something wrong with my leads (I’m not sure how old they are , could be the original ones) or have I just been lucky in the past???

You probably provided a better path to ground so the electric took the path of least resistance. If you do the check for "christmas lights" in the back you will see if your leads are cracked/ing. But at 14 years I would probably just replace them. So sez the fool with more money than sense.
