As I followed one to work this morning (it looked awesome), just wondering what the designation for the Cayman is. Is it just a 987 or does it have its own designation?
And whilst on such an interesting topic, is the 964 Turbo really a 965? I've been using 965 for ages but I've heard that this is not really the case?
Is there anywhere that I can find a list of all the designations for Porsche models?
Please feel free to answer if you're still awake at this point....

According to the Porsche Parts List the designation of the Cayman is 987C. The current Boxster is just 987.
You are correct in that the 965 designation was used for a car which never made it to market. The 965 prefix for part numbers is used for many 964 Turbo parts but is, nevertheless, not the correct designation for the 964 Turbo.

its funny, i dropped my car at the dealer to fix my ac ( still under warraty), so i had 1 hour to kill before the shuttle takes me home. so i started a conversation with a porsche salesman. 15 min later, he asks me if i wanted to drive a new cayman
, well i couldnt say no
anyway, the car sounds amazing, firstgear was pretty short and disapointing, but boy in all the other gears the car just takes off like a rocket and handling was amazing. iam not 2 crazy about the body style though
