I read somewhere that there is a problem with flashing the headlights - slow response? - and that there is some issue about switching to low beam? What is your experience Rob?

 

Ian - no problem with mine. Somehow the flash has a faster start-up than normal switching on of headlights. It's not as good as the flash gets what the xenons are running, but it's OK.

I don't have an issue switching to low beam...no idea what this point refers to. Mine work absolutely as you'd expect.

 

I am not trying to sell on here but if you really want the good kits my shop sell the Hella(phillips) HID kits. They just came out with HI and LOW beam kits also. they are made in Germany and by far are the best kits out there. You can call me if interested I will give very fair prices. By the way they are direct replacement and come with ballist and full relay kit.

 

My car already looks bright white and not yellow like the original posters driver's side light. Do I just look to see if the PO did the change by looking for ballasts??? I would really like to have headlights like the ones on my new Acura. The smaller round ones like on BMW and new Porsche. Is that possible?

 

The original picture of the headlight seems unusally yellow. Perhaps your current "bright white" lights are the result of a buld replacement such as Silverstars, Piaa Xtreme White, or similar. I run mine with Silverstar Ultra and is happy with the results. Naturally, a true HID would be noticeably better, but I am not sure if I can justify the mod since I hardly drive my 964 at night.

 

Interesting. I did a HID conversion on my Ducati some years back and I noticed the same thing. After a short while it would return to normal. There is a load spike when it ignites. I thought maybe it was RF or something?

If HID are installed correctly they draw power thru the the relay pack which is hooked up directly to the battery. You only use the low and high beam wires to activate the relays. Lower draw on wire then when the original bulbs were in. To many peaple buy cheap kits without the relay pack and use the factory wires to run the HID. This is when you run into problems. I have them in all my cars as well as over 100 customers with very little returns. As far as load spike, HIDs maybe draw an extra 10 amps, again hooked up right they are drawing directly from the battery. An extra 10 amp draw is nothing.

 

Do you have any pics of the kit uninstalled and installed? Maybe a copy of the install instructions??

This photo was underexposed in order to really show the difference. Yes, before the HIDs were installed I would have said my headlights were white light. Not compared to the HID. The difference is incredible. The aim of the photo was to demonstrate this difference. However bright you think your headlights are, they are nowhere compared to HIDs!

 

Hi Rob - I must be dim (ha ha pun not intended!) but is the xenon light only on high beam? So when you switch to low beam you revert to normal lighting?
