Default Oil Pressure too high?

I have 79,000 miles on my 89 964. The engine was "rebuilt" to correct the cylinder head problems 89's had at 35,000 miles. So the engine basically has 44,000 miles on it. There are no leaks whatsoever and it does not even seem to use oil like I expected it to. It does not seem to use any oil. (Crazy compared to my 86 911!)

Anyway...the pressure gauge reads 3 bar at idle once warmed up and 5 bar when driving at any speed. Is this too much oil pressure?

My 86 3.2 idles at 1.5 bar and runs at 3.5 bar.

Thanks,
Marc

I usually get 5 bar running, down to 2 bar warm and idling. I just redid mine this year and use about a cup for 2000 miles, I think.

Marc,

Mine is about the same as yours & it's fine, but a little higher at idle than the norm, but this is a good thing!

Mine are the same, both of them, 3 or higher at idle, around 5 just by touching the gas pedal, no need to accelerate..

Mine was the same way as well. Actually over 5 bars when at 5000 RPM.

To put your mind further at ease you can always have the pressure checked with a good quality mechanical pressure guage which plugs directly into an oil port on the engine. For minimal cost a mechanic can do this and may save you a lot of money down the road if you catch a blocked oil passage early before it starves a bearing.
