Smile The easiest thing I did all day.

I installed a front protection bar from Gert at Carnewal (a RL sponsor).

It took about 5 minutes and, judging by the scrapes there already, it will be put to good use now that my car will be sitting a good 1 - 1.5" lower.

Marc
edit: I have since touched-up the scuffs so it looks better.

Marc,
I see you have H&R Coilovers.Have you had any trouble with tire rub.I have had some left front mostly.I'm doing my brakes tonight and I'm going to see if I can adjust the front. The bar is a good idea. The town where I live has a lot of bad roads.

front bottoming scrapes are a bitch.. the bar takes the brunt of it. Although I'm interested to know if the bar will rip off if it hits too hard on the bottom and also damage the undercarriage.

Judging by this post, it is pretty sturdy!

Jeff - I have just installed the H&R's so I don't know about rub yet. Where does yours rub? What is your ride height set at? Do you have non-stock rims with a different offset or are they wider rims?

Thanks for posting this Marc.

I've been thinking the same thing... just put HR springs on a month or so ago. I wasnt' sure this would fit a 964. Apparently it does

I am going to try the cheap route. I have an bar from an early Carrera that I want to try to see if it fits the next time I fix the smile.

I had the front wheels off last night to look at the ride higth setting. It was at the lowest setting. After adjustment it is lowered by 1 inch. She has 18 inch cup style wheels, with 225/40's.I got them from the Tire Rack unsure about the off set,but Tire Rack said it was ok for my car.Looking in the wheel well rub is on the fender lip and at about 2:00 on the right side(3:00 left),at the inside and out side tire edge(one tire mark is on the trap door in the wheel well)If I could get my member number I could post a pic.

Geoff,

None - it uses two stock screw holes from underneath and the bolt uses the stock trunk drain hole (just remove the rubber drain plug and bolt it in).

Marc, I had thought about one of these after the last time I spent under the front of my car straightening out the grin.

My concern was that it might actually cause more damage as a result of its protruding further out from the car.

Thanks for the pics!

You don't need a member number to post pictures - see here.

It depends on the width and offset of the rims as 225/40's should fit okay but, if you have a wide rim (8" - 8.5"), you may need to roll the fender so it is not hitting the inside of the lip.

Thanks Marc. She has 8.5s on the front. After the hight adjustment and reducing front tire pressure to 33 psi the rub is much better.I should be getting around to the brakes Sat night or Sunday and will take some pics.
