Behold the strength of Gert's Front Protection Bar
I fitted the FPB last month and took what's left of it from the car today -- They were removing a North South top road surface and I hit it coming from the West square on -- God knows what damage I would have had without the bar -- Replacement on order

The weird thing is that I've been driving this car for 5 years without one and I decided to fit one last month in anticipation of the upcoming RoW lowering that I hope to do soon.
Although I'm pissed it happened ( Bloody road construction ! ) I agree with George that the damage without it being there could have been much more expensive

I don't even want to think about the sound that made. I've got to think you'd have lost the undertray and probably the bumper cover, plus whatever holds them on.

Since it hangs down lower than the front end, maybe you wouldn't have contacted it at all, with no bar. The center of your bar doesn't even look scratched. Did it only hit on one side?

Three Wheelin'
What is the diameter of the tube... 3/4"? If so, or there about... it is that much less clearance. I thought about getting the bar but passed just for that reason. Now if the tube was replaced with a flat contoured plate, then that might just be the ticket. Look at off-road truck under protection... plate material, not tubes that take more away from maximum ground clearance. Just MHO... not to upset anyone. Oh, by the way, the tube bent, that means it took an impact, as opposed to sliding up and over.

Not a scratch on the centre bolt or anything down stream of that -- I'm glad the centre hole has not been elongated in the process
Joe
After reading your comment I just went to the garage and tried it in the vise -- No way is this thing moving ( I could always fit it backwards and hit that bump again
Dr No
I knew when I hit the bump that it was severe -- I thought maybe my wheels might have also been damaged but they're OK
My only concern is when I get the new one the end screws might have to be enlarged to find some plastic to bite into

The bar hit, and it appears nothing else hit.....when something else hits in that kind of situation, it is obvious. The bar does lower your car.......but it is good "insurance".

No worries. It's no secret I don't care for the FPB.
I'm just saying, to bend it like that, it would have to take a direct hit, like a small curb, if you will. The FPB does not protect from curb type hits. A curb tall enough, would contact your front end first, then move back an hit the FPB second. Therefore, if his front bumper was not damaged, I would say the "curb" was lower than his front spoiler, henceforth, hitting only the FPB. If the the FPB wasn't there, than maybe he wouldn't have hit the "curb" surface at all.
