Default Suspension upgrade advice

Hi Guys,

The (standard) suspension on my car after 78,000 miles and 16 years old is well past its best. Ride is now very hard because I guess the dampers just aren't doing their job any more.

I would like to change both the springs and dampers. I have heard good things about H&R and Bilstein + Eibach. Does anyone have these fitted or other kits or have any other suggestions? I've also heard progressive springs are a good idea - what does everyone think?

I not after a rock hard ride, but something similar to original.

Cheers for any advice !

Johnny.

I have the H&R(green) springs and Bilstein shocks. Great ride... not too stiff. The H&R srpings are progressive. If you are in the US, they lower the ride height to around ROW height... which looks much better too. Handling is greatly improved.
I had 70K on the originals and the new stuff has been a great improvement over the old.
This is on a cab that is not tracked, only street.

Thanks Mark - its good to hear your feedback and advice. I think the H&R springs may be the way to go.

Can't wait to get something sorted !

I'm in the UK, so ride heght may not be that different?

My car is a 1990 C4. Silver, blue leather.

I have bilstien and the green h&r's as well. They are great on the street, too soft for track. Overall they are good quality and I am happy. Plus the car looks soo much better on the lower stance.

I totally agree with 92964

I have red H&R springs (turbo) and the Bilstein shocks. Love the setup and the ride is not too harsh at all. I also love that the car sits lower without bottoming out.

Bilstein and H&R for me, I looked at LEDA, and would have gone there, but at £1200 + fitting I found it too expensive for me anyways.

kevin.

P.S. pictures are custom and practice around here..so post away...then tell us where abouts in the UK you are.

Eibach springs and Koni Yellows adjustable. Pricewise very hard to beat ( springs=350 euro, shocks=600 euro). Overall comfort and handling vastly improved BUT you have to cut the original shocks in order to insert the Koni cartridges and re-use the fornt struts. Can be a bit messy. The rears are complete shocks.

Default What Koni part number for fronts

Chris,
Can you tell me what the Koni part numbers were that you put in the modified front strut housings? I would really rather go Koni on my 964.

Koni Sport-8641-1365 for the fronts.
Before you start your job have a good look at the adjustable collar. My aluminium collar, on which the large ring is screwed for the ride height adjustment, was split on one side. I had no other option than to find another strut at a breaker. I'll give you also a link to the Koni site where they explain how to install the inserts. Good luck.

Kevin

Am hearing good stuff about H&R and Bilsteins. JZ Machtech in Herts want almost £2k to fit and align !!

Did you fit them yourself and if not would you mind confirming what the total cost was and who did the work for you....
Cheers

I'm in Marlow Bucks..... Will post some pics soon !!

Hi john,

I fitted them myself over a couple of days, I'm kind of like that. so the total cost was ..lowish.

I'll PM you the cost as I negotiated it privately and don't want to push the supplier out of favour.

I had it aligned at the local OPC who kindly offered a discount before I'd even asked, cost for that was 145+vat....took them 3 hours

LEDA's are nice because they're adjustable if you ever want to stiffen things up. I believe they even come from the UK...

I have them on my C4 race car, but when I change the C4 widebody's suspension, I'll be putting those shocks in (with lighter springs, of course!)
