Default 964 Improvement

I just wanted to know what, in your opinion, can be done to a 964, to make it a little more "raw", without afecting security and "normal" driving aspects?

I have no mechanical skills whatsoever, so the job would need to be done by a mechanic.

Also I don't do track.

The 964 is not a daily driver, but I would not like to lose the capacity of turning it into one.

Any ideas? Suggestions?

More raw - easy....

Louder exhaust and cat by-pass
Lower stiffer suspension
Remove soundproofing
Replace seats with lightweight fixed back seats
Replace electric with wind-up windows

If not already lowered do that. Maybe replace the last muffler with a Gpipe for a bit more rumble and possible a couple horsepower. Dont know how "raw" you want it but guess you could change out door panels to RS style and strip out sound material under the carpet..

Well seeing as you have a cab, like the others have said: Exhaust and intake mods will give you grunty note. Many use the Eibach springs with Bogen shocks/struts for a sportier suspension without losing your teeth.

I'd agree, a G-Pipe is a cheap mod which will transform the car immediately. The noise is addictive and even if it doesn't make the car rev any better you will find you might well change the way you drive to get the most from the sound

Along similar lines you could do the airbox mod (details here in the technical section). This will increase induction noise when you put your foot down.

Cat Bypass - deep bassy sound on load.
G-Pipe - Higher Raw Bark sound throughout rev range.
LWF - lets the engine rev like a bastard.
Id go for both and a Ninemeister remap to 295bhp.

Lowering springs/new Bilsteins while your there (unless they are less than 2-3 years old)
Fabspeed Dual-out exhaust
LWF, New Chip (do the clutch and RMS while its apart)
Bigger wheels/tires

Thank you guys. Will have to check wether such mods will pass the yearly inspection, though...

I like the idea of the car making me change the driving to get the most out of the sound, Jim.

Replace your power-steering rack with a manual rack from the RS/RSA.

miguel, i have a complete stainless set of ghl headers with cats and heat exchangers that i used on my '91 c4 carrea for 2000+ miles. ghl states 28hp and 28 tq gain over stock. i also (later) added a new mass air flow unit which i also have for sale. each mod seemed to add about equally to the performance. if interested send me an email, cheers, vk

Yeah right... that is a TOTAL BS claim. You *may* get a 1-2HP gain but even that is questionable. It's a well made exhaust but anyone that thinks bolting on a different muffler will give them a 10%+ HP gain is fooling themselves.. Different chip, headers, intake, cam, and MAYBE you will pull another 28HP out of a sock 964... I can see how the MAF add-on doubled the increase, you went from 249HP to 251!
