Default Noisy rear blower - can it be lubed?

Hi. Just lately have noticed that my rear blower is sounding a bit rough..is it possible to get some grease or gt85 in there? It looks pretty easy to open up..

Usually, the fact that it's noisy doesn't mean it needs grease - it means it's knackered and is about to start blowing fuses.

The case is easy to open up, but once you get to the motor itself you'll see that there is no way to grease it well enough to prevent you from buying a new one. They just wear out and are not made to be fixed or greased, but replaced. Your only option is to buy a new one before it breaks altogether.

Cool, thanks.
I'll keep it at blue dot until I can get another motor. Just another little thing to die around the car. These things can't last for ever, I guess.

(My mate with a 993 opened his when it got nosiy, and found a piece of mechanic's rag in there!)

The electric motor only is availble ex Germany from Bosch on Bosch part number 0 130 111 145-cheaper than buying the whole blower unit from Porsche

I would open it up and get some WD 40 or grease into it. That might buy you some time. Other members have been lucky that way. Mine was making noise and I took it apart and tried to get oil into the bearings. Still made noise after I got it together. Not being too happy I "knocked it' and the noise went away. I already got one from one of the members who is parting out his car unfortunately. They cost $300 and you have to use a 993 part. If you can get just the motor, that is the way to go. That was good advise from Twoods.

Default Not really fixable

I bought one here for $170

GetCoolParts

The front of the shaft is in a bushing rather then a bearing. I suppose a guy could try to afix a bearing to the location of bushing however due to the case being made of pot metal, it would be hard to weld.

I think that when my motor was replaced it was about £65. However - that was probably about 3 years ago, and it seems very unlikely that it was cheaper in the UK than the US so I suspect the price has gone up.

Thanks guys for the links and ballparks. I chucked a little GT85 in there (wd40 with teflon) and I'll put it back on and report.
I expect to need to replace the motor soon, though.
If it breaks, its mainly cabin heat I'm losing, right? - I don't remember hearing it on very often in engine cooling mode.

OTOH, its a heavy old thing. Maybe a bypass...ha ha.

In theory it is just cabin heat - it also means you get very little air blowing through so defrosting your windscreen just won't happen.

Default I got the same problem + cracked rubber connection

What is the name and partnumber on the rubber part connecting between the blower and the engine fan-ducting??

That's what I thought when my blower motor died last month. It was so heavy and I'm just trying to rid my car of moving pieces that I don't really need for simplicity's sake. I now have a bypass and I like it so far.

There are still things I want to figure out though because I know the front blower motors can push plenty of air without the rear one, the problem is just that when you disconnect the rear one the front ones dont work at all. VERY weird, but there has to be a way around it. Look for my recent threads about it if you are truly interested.
