Show me your 964 with aftermarket wheels
Like I said I'm going to be in the market for a 964, love to see what you guys have for wheels on your 964. Which will probably be the first thing I do to it when I get it. Thank you

TechArt Aftermarket Wheels
1 Attachment(s)
Mine are 18" Techart wheels. Were put on the car by the PO. I like them but I suspect they are heavy compared to 17" cup wheels. Car drives and handles good with them and Dunlop 9000s 225 40 18 in front and 265 35 18 in the rear.

Craig... I LOVE those Techart rims!
|
Thanks Rick.
Ive got the parts sitting in my garage to lower the car and refresh the suspension. I think the wheels will look even better after the 4 wheelin look is gone. My goal is to have my car look as good as yours when Im finished. Craig 91 Porsche 964 C2 04 Subaru WRX STI 98 Honda VTR 1000 |

Hey Craig i was looking on a used car sight and i think i saw the same car that you have??? Did you just buy it or are you the seller??? Its very nice.
JERRY |
Jerry,
Thanks for the compliment! I bought the car from a guy named Chris in Tampa just before Christmas, I also managed to track down the previous owner who now has a 996 and is a Rennlist member . I told my wife she is paid up on Christmas presents for life. The car is still in Panorama and may still be on Autotrader which is where I first saw it. It is a near perfect example and the PPI checked out good. It has an oil drip but its not bad (few drops every week), I think it is the oil pressure sender and I have a new O ring sitting on my workbench, along with my H & R 965 springs, Koni front struts, and rear shocks. I also picked up a RSA front sway bar. Now I just need a little free time to install all my goodies. Craig 91 Porsche 964 C2 04 Subaru WRX STI 98 Honda VTR 1000 |
Here's a shot of my Cup II's... Not really aftermarket but certainly not stock.

Here is a set of original 17" C2 Trbo rims, refinished in gunmetal gray:

OT: eh Rick...
when i see your car, i wonder how it would look without the black lip on the rear spoiler.... have ever thinkabout painting it same color as the rest of the car???? That black lip always disturb me on the colorful cars. |
I like the look of the turbo tail on there... But I've often thought about swapping it out for a carrera tail. I haven't ever really thought about the same color all over though. I like the black trim... But it is a little big. Can't paint the rubber trim though.
I do like Craig's pictured above though... |
I would get an all fiberglass piece - much lighter, and you can get it colormatched (like your splitter).
BTW - I'm putting my splitter on next week - can't wait... |
A little dirty after a hard day of driving, but you get the point. ;)

Hollow spoke wheels are developed from the original turbo wheels for the 993. The hollow spoke centres are spun welded onto the rims using some kind of proprietary technology and are lighter and stronger than the solid spoke wheels....but more expensive.

Thanks for the info!

I instead chose Cup4 rims from TireRack. Shipped to my door, the total cost of the rims and tires (Sumitomo HTR Z III), plus balancing was less then $1100! I don't have a picture of them on a 964 unfortunately, but I think these Fondmetal 9RR wheels would look good, are light (7x17” size weighs 7.45kg) and cheap (from £210).

Not the greatest photos yet, but these are newly rebuilt/modified TechArt Championship wheels. I believe the TechArt center, the actual metal, is the only thing original. New rim halves, bolts, anodizing, paint, and Porsche center cap caps (yes, it's a Porsche emblem overtop the original TechArt cap).

I am absolutely in love with these wheels... There's something so modern and yet period about them. |
O, I do like them!
Similar to Image Wheels Billet 1 Wheel. Image are a UK based split-rim manufacturer if you havent seen their stuff :) http://www.imagewheels.co.uk/wheels/...t/billet_1.jpg |
My initial plan for a 964 was to buy a slate grey car and fit their Billet 2 wheels :)
It all changed when I got the GR car, for some reason I think they'd suit a darker colour more? They also do a fuch rep wheel, which they could do in a split-rim... ;) Chris |

I am loving this. With a slate grey car I've been really torn as to whether to go for black centres or not, or whether to got for gold spokes. This car makes me want black centres! Trouble is I think the Veloces are only available in 18s and I'm not sure whether to take the plunge or not. I notice Veloce wheels direct actually have it as their advert car in their eBay listing. |

A BBS E28 look, and certainly looks the part on Richards turbo plus fraction of BBS price. The prices should be on the website, built to order what ever size you want.

What I need to find out is what size is the max I can go without modding the height or suspension of the car. I just want the wheels and some new tires, and maybe later, some new shocks and springs, but that would come later. Don't want to hijack the thread, so I'm going to search for wheel threads to figure out wheel size and tire options. My car is supposed to be for sale, but I might end up keeping it and tricking it out instead. :) |

Been looking around at cheap knock about wheels and came across these reps....
Available in 18", 8J & 9J offset is all wrong at 35ET! But worth investigating if there are more offsets available. The websites state the stud diameter/ pattern can be made up. From £ 500 ! Don't know anything about the brand - tend to be found on VWs, BMWs.... Calibre do make track wheels also. Could be worth investigating for a group buy discount of dirt cheap wheels we won't worry about? They are reps of BBS rs wheels I believe. Which aren't available in 18" IIRC and cost the earth. Here are some on a slammed 964 - these are 18" due to Rotiform barrels/ lips £,£££. Gives an idea of the look. |

Rolled fender lips? I'm calculating how to achieve similar flushness w/ my OEM 7/9 +55 Cup IIs. I think I need a 15mm spacer in front and a 20mm spacer in the rear.

Wow Tobias, 10,5 in the rear! Ii think it's pretty full with my 10" :-)

Wow that looks so perfect. No rubbing on high speed turns or dips?
Arches have to be rolled to pull that off. |

The fenders are rolled, there is a slight rubbing in the front when donig a full turn and hard compression.
Think the car might need to be a few mm higher. The 0,5 gives that little extra Thomas.. Attachment 720064 |

if you are happy with this guy's fitment, then you can: (a)use the online calculator to measure the hub to rim outside edge of his fitment, then (b) with your narrower wheels, do the calcs to work out what spacer is required for the same hub to rim outside edge. |
^ Yup, that's exactly what I was doing. This wheel calculator is pretty good for doing just that.

Eta Beta turbo wheels, were available in 17" and 18" |
Staggered BBS RSII. They looked even better with the chrome center caps but they rotted out so I opted for a set of black with gold lettering. For some reason the vendor sent me red with gold lettering.

Is there a particular offset i need to get he lips for? How does that side of things work as they are kind of custom... Sorry for the novice questions, i am that guy who messes things up! |
I presume any BBS RS face with the Porsche PCD ould work, but I'd speak to Rotiform to confirm what would work with their 964 RS upgrade. There's an email addy on that VW Vortex thread. Failing that speak to Vegas on here, who is running a set at the mo :)

I could be mistaken, but those 19" wheels could be from Sportec in Switzerland. Adrian S. may have used these wheels on his 964.

I think the lobster claws look better on the 964 WB than the 997. I still find it amazing how the 964 can look modern or retro/old just based on the wheels.
|
^^^ Agreed, those lobster claws look the part on the WB, awesome looking ride.
|
cool wheels but imho 19's are just too big for a 964...they're overwhelming the car.
|
Agreed 19s are IMO just too big.
Remember that 18s were not approved for fitment on 964s by Porsche let alone 19s - bulletin issued. The rolling circumference never changes as tyre profiles should always go down as appropriate but a reduced tyre wall will cause stress on wheel bearings, transmissions etc. Having said that a lot of us run 18s on track with appropriate profiles - still not heard of an issue. This is where stretched tyres are a bad idea as they effectively reduce the rolling circumference significantly which will cause the above stresses and throw your speedo reading out the window. That said, that bunch seem happy. |
Many thanks for the kind comments chaps,
|

It rides like any modern car with 19's. A little rougher ride than 17's or 18's. We have pretty awesome roads in Canada so for me it drives great. Handles very nice but will pull you in the direction of road ruts. This is typical for 19 inch wheels. I am running a stage 1 protomotive turbo, so spinning the 19's is not a problem for me. I tried yesterday to post a side shot but having trouble. I think it would be super sweet when I can tuck the front a little more. I have H&R greens and bilstiens. Want to go another 1/2 - 1" drop in the front. Jeff |
|
Those that have run their cars with 17" wheels and moved to 18", have you noticed much detriment to the ride quality? I'd be interested to hear your feedback.
I like the 18" look but concerned the lower profile tires will make for a very jarring ride with poly bushes and KW V3 all round. Is there much in the cost/variety of available tires available for each? My intended usage is road/track with a 70/30 split. |

Totally agree. Pretty much all Porsche wheel post Cup-1´s looks wrong on the 964 IMO especially the Cup-2´s but this one makes the car look so modern in a really cool way.

Do you know? |

They are aggressive offsets, running 275 rears required rolling the rear arches. I ran 275's previously on OEM Cup 1's and ran a rear spacer to better fill out the fenders. I too love a little dish...

Update: 1552 contacted me and has offered to have the wheels re powder coated. They are having the wheels and tires picked up and will return them the same way. They were very nice and made no bones about standing behind their product. |

^^ those look great ... but aren't the 997 lobster claws 19in ... also 11J wide rears which won't fit a NB I think.
I have a set of BBS E28 & LMS and 17in Speedline Reps (also Italian) as well as the OEM Boxster rims the car came with (which need a repaint, but are light and nice for track) ... as you can tell I find it hard to choose but if I had only one choice it would be E28/88 in gold ... or the RUF turbos .. or the GT2 speedlines ... or T37s ... oh bugger https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...4ce131042a.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...cf90b7deeb.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...6a3428b64b.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...e12ae6fa99.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...a1af28d519.jpg |
