Like I said I'm going to be in the market for a 964, love to see what you guys have for wheels on your 964. Which will probably be the first thing I do to it when I get it. Thank you

Mine are 18" Techart wheels. Were put on the car by the PO. I like them but I suspect they are heavy compared to 17" cup wheels. Car drives and handles good with them and Dunlop 9000s 225 40 18 in front and 265 35 18 in the rear.

Thanks Rick.
Ive got the parts sitting in my garage to lower the car and refresh the suspension. I think the wheels will look even better after the 4 wheelin look is gone.

Hey Craig i was looking on a used car sight and i think i saw the same car that you have??? Did you just buy it or are you the seller??? Its very nice.

JERRY

CraigC 03-05-2006 09:59 PM

Jerry,
Thanks for the compliment!
I bought the car from a guy named Chris in Tampa just before Christmas, I also managed to track down the previous owner who now has a 996 and is a Rennlist member . I told my wife she is paid up on Christmas presents for life. The car is still in Panorama and may still be on Autotrader which is where I first saw it. It is a near perfect example and the PPI checked out good. It has an oil drip but its not bad (few drops every week), I think it is the oil pressure sender and I have a new O ring sitting on my workbench, along with my H & R 965 springs, Koni front struts, and rear shocks. I also picked up a RSA front sway bar. Now I just need a little free time to install all my goodies.

OT: eh Rick...

when i see your car, i wonder how it would look without the black lip on the rear spoiler.... have ever thinkabout painting it same color as the rest of the car????
That black lip always disturb me on the colorful cars.

Smokin 03-06-2006 01:05 AM

I like the look of the turbo tail on there... But I've often thought about swapping it out for a carrera tail. I haven't ever really thought about the same color all over though. I like the black trim... But it is a little big. Can't paint the rubber trim though.

I do like Craig's pictured above though...

agentpennypacker 03-06-2006 02:01 PM

I would get an all fiberglass piece - much lighter, and you can get it colormatched (like your splitter).

BTW - I'm putting my splitter on next week - can't wait...

Wheels came on the car when I bought it. I have the receipt, but it is a few years old and purchased from the dealer, so it is not much help to you. You can find these wheels all day long on E-bay (most days). They come in 17" and 18", both hollow spoke and solid. Here is an example: Here

Thank you!
I bought some a few hours ago. (Boxster wheels...non S)

What is hollow spoke and solid? I have seen it mentioned a few times in my searches.

Thanks!

rotorheadcase 03-12-2006 01:57 AM

Hollow spoke wheels are developed from the original turbo wheels for the 993. The hollow spoke centres are spun welded onto the rims using some kind of proprietary technology and are lighter and stronger than the solid spoke wheels....but more expensive.

SSpray 03-12-2006 01:58 AM

Thanks for the info!

Are your arches flared as opposed to rolled, if so for clearance? It's something I've pondered about.

I was originally looking for Cup1s, like most people, but couldn't find any at a reasonable price...

I instead chose Cup4 rims from TireRack. Shipped to my door, the total cost of the rims and tires (Sumitomo HTR Z III), plus balancing was less then $1100! It was a perfect fit and now I'm glad I chose something other than a Cup1. Fits the R Gruppe theme I'm going for.

Front - 17 x 7.5 / 52mm offset
Weight: 23.4lbs. (TireRack weight)

Rear - 17 x 9 / 47mm offset
Weight: 24.4lbs.

No need for rolling/flaring if they're the Ruf's made for 964 running moderate sizes - I'm running 255/40 as an example - and very low.

I don't have a picture of them on a 964 unfortunately, but I think these Fondmetal 9RR wheels would look good, are light (7x17” size weighs 7.45kg) and cheap (from £210).

If you look on the Fondmetal site, the 9RR starts in a 19" for Porsche fitment.

Not the greatest photos yet, but these are newly rebuilt/modified TechArt Championship wheels. I believe the TechArt center, the actual metal, is the only thing original. New rim halves, bolts, anodizing, paint, and Porsche center cap caps (yes, it's a Porsche emblem overtop the original TechArt cap).

That's what most of us were like. The more time you spend on this forum - the more your taste will change...

I am absolutely in love with these wheels... There's something so modern and yet period about them.

deutschland-dobson 10-05-2012 08:24 AM

O, I do like them!

Similar to Image Wheels Billet 1 Wheel. Image are a UK based split-rim manufacturer if you havent seen their stuff :)

deutschland-dobson 10-05-2012 08:26 AM

My initial plan for a 964 was to buy a slate grey car and fit their Billet 2 wheels :)

It all changed when I got the GR car, for some reason I think they'd suit a darker colour more?

They also do a fuch rep wheel, which they could do in a split-rim... ;)

I am loving this.

With a slate grey car I've been really torn as to whether to go for black centres or not, or whether to got for gold spokes.

This car makes me want black centres! Trouble is I think the Veloces are only available in 18s and I'm not sure whether to take the plunge or not.

I notice Veloce wheels direct actually have it as their advert car in their eBay listing.

Great look, what tyre sizes are you running and what offsets?

s4magman 11-04-2012 07:18 PM

Offset is a little muddy but I recall something like 50 front and rear - no spacers needed. Agressive alignment and rolled fenders though. I run MPSC 235/40 front and 265/35 rear.

Smesh, what do you want to know about the car? Its Richards 3.3 Turbo set on HLS1 KWs wearing 18" Image wheels.

Nski 11-24-2012 07:34 PM

A BBS E28 look, and certainly looks the part on Richards turbo plus fraction of BBS price. The prices should be on the website, built to order what ever size you want.

Image wheels, been around for a longtime and build wheels for racing mainly.

Okay. Well mine's a gun metal grey C4 Cab, and not a turbo, but I still think those black wheels and the clear marker lights will look pretty damn slick on my car and the black top might even accent the whole thing.

What I need to find out is what size is the max I can go without modding the height or suspension of the car. I just want the wheels and some new tires, and maybe later, some new shocks and springs, but that would come later.

Don't want to hijack the thread, so I'm going to search for wheel threads to figure out wheel size and tire options. My car is supposed to be for sale, but I might end up keeping it and tricking it out instead. :)

Been looking around at cheap knock about wheels and came across these reps....
Available in 18", 8J & 9J offset is all wrong at 35ET! But worth investigating if there are more offsets available. The websites state the stud diameter/ pattern can be made up.
From £ 500 ! Don't know anything about the brand - tend to be found on VWs, BMWs.... Calibre do make track wheels also.

Could be worth investigating for a group buy discount of dirt cheap wheels we won't worry about?
They are reps of BBS rs wheels I believe. Which aren't available in 18" IIRC and cost the earth.

Here are some on a slammed 964 - these are 18" due to Rotiform barrels/ lips £,£££. Gives an idea of the look.

Rolled fender lips? I'm calculating how to achieve similar flushness w/ my OEM 7/9 +55 Cup IIs. I think I need a 15mm spacer in front and a 20mm spacer in the rear.

Mr.Alex 04-13-2013 06:44 PM

Wow that looks so perfect. No rubbing on high speed turns or dips?

Arches have to be rolled to pull that off.

pcs7556964 04-13-2013 07:05 PM

The fenders are rolled, there is a slight rubbing in the front when donig a full turn and hard compression.

Think the car might need to be a few mm higher.

The 0,5 gives that little extra Thomas..

just do the calcs using those online offset calculators.

if you are happy with this guy's fitment, then you can:
(a)use the online calculator to measure the hub to rim outside edge of his fitment, then
(b) with your narrower wheels, do the calcs to work out what spacer is required for the same hub to rim outside edge.

Vandit 04-13-2013 07:48 PM

^ Yup, that's exactly what I was doing. This wheel calculator is pretty good for doing just that.

Eta Beta turbo wheels, were available in 17" and 18"

porterhaus 06-19-2013 02:50 AM

Staggered BBS RSII. They looked even better with the chrome center caps but they rotted out so I opted for a set of black with gold lettering. For some reason the vendor sent me red with gold lettering.

If they are genuine BBS red caps you have a bargain! Very rare.

I was quoted £160 GBP for a set. Black ones were loads cheaper.

Is there a particular offset i need to get he lips for? How does that side of things work as they are kind of custom...

deutschland-dobson 08-06-2013 01:02 PM

I presume any BBS RS face with the Porsche PCD ould work, but I'd speak to Rotiform to confirm what would work with their 964 RS upgrade. There's an email addy on that VW Vortex thread. Failing that speak to Vegas on here, who is running a set at the mo :)

I was going to go this route, but had trouble sourcing flat RS centers to build into 18's. I believe Vegas is running a flat center RS porsche face. As far as lip sizes go, it would be around a 1.5" up front and 2-2.5" depending how much of an aggressive setup youre looking for. Hoping Vegas can chime in here

deutschland-dobson 08-07-2013 04:16 AM

Wonder if Porsche BBS RS 131's would work? There's a set up for sale in the UK at the moment.

Vegas993 08-07-2013 02:51 PM

I sourced an original set of Porsche fitment, BBS RS 16x7 RS012 and 16x8 RS013, they are a flat face center and Rotiform upsized them to 18x8.5 and 18x10. I'm running 215/40 and 245/35 Michelins.

I wish I could find someone that sold these in the US.

I contacted the company that sells them in the UK on eBay and they are $1500, plus $700 to ship to the US. They couldn't tell me what I could expect customs costs to be. Might has well buy RH Speedlines for $3500.

That is a crazy shipping cost, there must be a cheaper way to get them here.

Or contact Jim Dorociak he may have something nice.

Perhaps, ring the manufacturer. Buy 20 sets, get cheap shipping and Ebay them for a small profit.

Wow, this look great.

SuperUser 05-01-2014 08:52 PM

I think the lobster claws look better on the 964 WB than the 997. I still find it amazing how the 964 can look modern or retro/old just based on the wheels.

LPMM 05-01-2014 10:45 PM

^^^ Agreed, those lobster claws look the part on the WB, awesome looking ride.

speedbagger 05-01-2014 10:46 PM

cool wheels but imho 19's are just too big for a 964...they're overwhelming the car.

BLACK-BETTY 05-02-2014 02:19 AM

Agreed 19s are IMO just too big.

Remember that 18s were not approved for fitment on 964s by Porsche let alone 19s - bulletin issued.
The rolling circumference never changes as tyre profiles should always go down as appropriate but a reduced tyre wall will cause stress on wheel bearings, transmissions etc.

Having said that a lot of us run 18s on track with appropriate profiles - still not heard of an issue.

This is where stretched tyres are a bad idea as they effectively reduce the rolling circumference significantly which will cause the above stresses and throw your speedo reading out the window. That said, that bunch seem happy.

Totally agree. Pretty much all Porsche wheel post Cup-1´s looks wrong on the 964 IMO especially the Cup-2´s but this one makes the car look so modern in a really cool way.

It does not rub, I am going to put a 5mm spacer on the rear only to be super safe.

It rides like any modern car with 19's. A little rougher ride than 17's or 18's. We have pretty awesome roads in Canada so for me it drives great. Handles very nice but will pull you in the direction of road ruts. This is typical for 19 inch wheels.

I am running a stage 1 protomotive turbo, so spinning the 19's is not a problem for me.

I tried yesterday to post a side shot but having trouble.

I think it would be super sweet when I can tuck the front a little more. I have H&R greens and bilstiens. Want to go another 1/2 - 1" drop in the front.

Those that have run their cars with 17" wheels and moved to 18", have you noticed much detriment to the ride quality? I'd be interested to hear your feedback.
I like the 18" look but concerned the lower profile tires will make for a very jarring ride with poly bushes and KW V3 all round.
Is there much in the cost/variety of available tires available for each? My intended usage is road/track with a 70/30 split.

SuperUser 05-02-2014 09:51 PM

I have V1s with CW bushings in the front. I went from old hard 16" tires to 18" Super Sports and the ride quality is just about same. Tire rack has great data on how tires perform and what the ride quality is like.

Thanks, red car is mine. Headlights are AP car design. I dig them because they still retain the 964 defining corner on the lense, those other lights to me are wrong using bug lenses....

Wheels are rotiform SCR and are a 3 piece take on porsche winter wheels. They have now been sold to another RL member and I've moved on to a new set of rotiform. Thanks again for the kind words :)

Thanks, sorry I don't have details on the ET. I bought them off a fellow 964'er, they don't have markings, and I never bothered to do measurements. They are aggressive offsets, running 275 rears required rolling the rear arches. I ran 275's previously on OEM Cup 1's and ran a rear spacer to better fill out the fenders. I too love a little dish...

Hard to tell with then being black and the photo low res. Looks like same wheels on both '64s, just different paint options. Could be AP Car Design split rim replicas.

In the process of building these, they are OZ futura, with the early style caps, originally 17" wheels but I up-sized them to 18" I should be done with them in the next couple weeks when the rest of my barells arrive.

1552 wheels. Have to say for the paint finish on them is lousy. New and the paint is just flaking off. Will pull them and send them out and have them powder coated.

Update: 1552 contacted me and has offered to have the wheels re powder coated. They are having the wheels and tires picked up and will return them the same way. They were very nice and made no bones about standing behind their product.

jimonycricket - your O.Z. Futura look very similar to my O.Z. Felgen. Mind you mine are from 1990 so maybe just different names same wheels.

Had them refinished 9 years ago and probably cost more to refinish than what was paid originally.

Love it, one of the best wheels for a 964. I had a chance to buy a set of these dirt cheap years ago and I didn't, I'm still kicking myself.:banghead:

I believe they are the same wheels, I rebuilt mine a little different, I face mounted the wheels, instead of a sandwich mount which looks to be the case with yours. Then I also upsized mine from their original 17" to 18" and then put stainless steel lips on instead of the normal aluminum. They are a fantastic wheel though. Once I feel motivated I am going to get bigger lips for the rear on mine. Not as wide as yours though :p

I agree

I saw this photo once before and have been quietly looking for a set :)

HiWind 11-22-2017 12:53 PM

^^ those look great ... but aren't the 997 lobster claws 19in ... also 11J wide rears which won't fit a NB I think.

I have a set of BBS E28 & LMS and 17in Speedline Reps (also Italian) as well as the OEM Boxster rims the car came with (which need a repaint, but are light and nice for track) ... as you can tell I find it hard to choose but if I had only one choice it would be E28/88 in gold ... or the RUF turbos .. or the GT2 speedlines ... or T37s ... oh bugger

perhaps it would be possible to get 4 fronts all 19x9's
you would have to break up a set but then it might be possible to fit.
I also read there are 18 inch knockoffs that look legit (just what I read somewhere on here????

Folks, i have a 1991 3.3 Turbo on gorgeous 18inch RUF wheels, but have a chance to but a set of 17inch Cup wheels

they are part numbers

they are part numbers

965.362.126.00/01 8ET52 x 17

965.362.128.05 9.5 ET68 x 17

so question is does anyone know if they are a straight fitment to the 91 964 turbo?

thanks

I'm far from a pro on wheel fitment but I think the rears won't work unless you run a BIG space. I'd use a 20mm-25mm spacer on my nb with that et and I'm pretty sure you'll need larger for the turbo flares
