A lot of people blur their plates because of an issue a few years back over a very nice 944Turbo local here in NJ that someone had used the license plate to find out where the car resides and then stole it. Apparently it was another rennlist member that was stealing cars from members and parting them out selling the parts back to rennlisters. So although it might not make sense to some I usually blur my plates and I try not to post pics of another members car without blurring the plates which should be a common courtesy to the owner.
What you do with your car is your own business but it is nice to respect others privacy. That is also why some people don't like to have their names mentioned. Although, I agree if a talented thief wants something they will find a way blurred plates or not, but why make it easy.

My friend just put together a resto-mod, and I had my son with me (16 yrs old) and he took a cellphone pic. I knew he'd e-mail his buddies, but chided him if he asked the owner permission to take a picture of the car in his garage. My friend said he really didn't want pictures out of his car, even though he has an alarm system on the house.

No way to prevent a really persistent thief from getting what they want, short of killing them, but I can see your point. Not to stir the pot, but do you ask the owner if they care that you posted the pics also? no point in getting into the discussion about being in public, and expectation of privacy. I can read all about that on my camera forum.

I was at Robert Litton's garage with Humpty Dumpty or the one off 964 America GS. He allowed me to take some pictures but asked that I don't post. He said it was Ok to post his one off last 930 cab built and his BMW M6 and Alpina all custom worked. But since he was kind enough to allow me to view a one of a kind car that few will have the privilege of seeing I think it is only fair i respect his wishes.
