I apologize in advance but there seems to be this trend to drop these cars below RS ride height and for the life of me I can't fathom why other than looks. I see this a lot around me with older BMW 3 series and they usually run about 15 degrees negative camber bouncing allover the road or sitting on the shoulder with a damaged rim.
I had my turbo at RS height and it bottomed out until I put in the H&R supercup suspension and that was considerably higher than some of these cars. Couldn't stand the ride for the street way to stiff and even on the track I am not sure how you guys handle the bump steer issues. I am building a track car that will be low but not that low since there is no advantage if anything a disadvantage to handling.
Sorry for the negative comment but maybe you could clarify this for me.

Because stance.
Im at rs height. Handles great, looks pretty good. If I could go lower a bit in the front i would But i cant without issues, so i wont.
I've been told i can safely go lower with 993 gt evo uprights. I plan on doing that when i upgrade my brakes.

There is fashion and there is style. The great thing about fashion you don't usually have to wait too long for the next one.

Nice package car. Is it yours. Are you aware of flachbau.com that documents these rare beasts. If not Mark would love to have your information for his site.

Low cars are not a new fad, the popularity of more extreme lowering might've increased within this community but generally speaking its nothing new and probably isn't going anywhere either.
You can drive a 964 without driving it on the track, and I would guess most of these low cars you see are certainly driven. From my experience, you can drop these cars very low without giving away its driveability on the road. Of course its more stiff, otherwise you'd bang it on the ground.
For the record I drive my 964 at this height and it performs nicely. I drive it fast, I drive it slow, I drive by myself, with my wife or my daughter. if I were to take it on the track (I will soon, I only recently got it back in shape), I would raise it a bit higher to make it perform better, simple as that. but for road use, this works just fine.
Of course we all have our preferences and thats cool.
to answer cobalt's original question, yes, its for looks.
