Default Carrera 2 badge

HI all

I've just had my engine cover repaired (cyclist left 3 dents in it) and I've ordered a new Carrera 2 badge...and it's different to the one that was on there.

It looks like at some point a previous owner has updated the badge to 993?

Anyway, can you all post pics of your rear ends, so I can choose a new badge - can't decide whether to go for

- original 964
- updated (993?)
- silver?
- other?

Thanks!

If it were me and I had a new paint job on the rear deck lid, I'd take the opportunity to delete the "2".

I ordered a new Carrera badge, and the darn replacement was the wrong size; too small. If I had a repaint, I might be tempted to just leave it all off; the badges that is.

Has anyone got a wideangle lens? Or are you talking about the car?

I was told by a bodyshop recently that the 'Carrera 2' script as originally fitted on the lids of our 964s is no longer produced - the replacement is in a smaller font size. No idea if this is gospel, but seems to tie up with what others are saying here. You may find some 'new old stock' somewhere but you'll be out of luck at the OPCs.

Aside from countless hours in the gym, in my quest for the perfect behind I have collected a few different "Carrera" logos.

The 964 logo seems to available only in black. I bought one from Performance Products for US$26.95. It is now being painted silver by Eric from BumperPlugs.

The 993 logo is the same as the 964 logo except it is only 21.5 cm long (the 964 logo is 27 cm).

The 996 logo is similar but measures only about 26 cm and the tops of the letter "a" are all open - as you can see below.

Marc
p.s. I could not get a photo of the 964 one too as I sent it off to get painted.

wow, great info Marc...

I was just going to post this

<<<<------

BTW, I am glad that the folks on this board resisted the opportunity to make immature jokes when requested to "post pics of your rear end".
Classy bunch here

Hey Rob,

You're making me feel bad about pointing it out to you!! I never realised it would cause so much difficulty in getting the correct replacement.

I tried a quick call to my local OPC to check if the original logo (911.559.037.00) is still available but the system at Porsche was down (for the holidays??). The 993 part (993.559.237.00) is, as we all know, substantially smaller. Interestingly, the logo for the 993 Carrera 4S is yet another different part.

The other slightly annoying thing is that if you go with the newer, 993-style you cannot get a "2" to match it - only a "4".

I've attached pictures of my car in all three states it's existed in - theoriginal - misaligned - 964 style, the replacement, 993-style and the now current "proper" 964-style.

Best regards

Dave

Just got my car back from the painters, having had the engine lid repainted after removing the Techart spoiler that was fitted previously. Took the opportunity to delete the "2" badhe, and just had the original "Carrera" re-instated. To my mind this is the best option, judge for yourself ...

Personally, I'm quite proud of my "4" - I like people to know what it is. I can't help feeling that leaving off the "2" is a bit like being ashamed of what it is - especially since there never was a 964 called "Carrera". It's a personal choice thing, of course.

Regards

Dave
