Thanks all
I have no intention of stirring any pots here, so please remember that first before responding. I've been on a few boards, last one before this was a cycle forum and you know how those biker folks are
. There was always trouble in River City; someone had flamed someone else, and the war was on. Well, as a credit to this board, it's members and the moderators, we seem to avoid lots of that. sure, we have differences of opinion, different posting styles, and different languages, but we seem to keep flames to a minimum.
I don't get to the other boards cuz the division of models seems to keep pertinent knowledge over here as it relates to the 964. from what I hear though, it can be rough out there. Our little 964 world seems to protect each other from those gunslingers out there, and for that I too am grateful. When someone needs support for a non-car related issue, this family of 'listers is right there also. Again, a credit to our community of friends and family. I've also seen and been the recipient of shared physical resources, either in parts or labor (thanks Rob- RallyDog).
So in closing, keep up the great work. We need each other in our quest for Excellence.

You said it! I do get to the other boards and you're right, it can be downright ugly sometimes. I refer to one in particular as the "Springer" board; they're always fighting, flaming, and pulling hair. Makes it hard to like the model sometimes....

It's good to hear that this place can offer comfort during difficult times Hawk. The OT section isn't that bad after all, I have already learned quite a few interesting things over there, it's a very mixed bag of persons and opinions. I recently participated in a thread on Spaghetti westerns, kitchen knives and the SR71. My knowledge in those three domains has increased which makes me feel okay about it. I like to read about aviation in general and some time ago I bumped into this story on a Blackbird test flight, read it and think it over.SR71 Blackbird I know I'm drifting off but this is the kind of story you could have read, I think it's worth the risk of venturing into the OT-corral.
Hahaha - you want to go in uncharted waters, check out www.190revolution.com - brutal. Go to the 3-series forum on bimmerforums.com, viscious.
On the 3 series board, this guy had custom exhaust tips made for his new 330i, but the group thought they were, uh, not worthy of the marque, and piled on the guy in a way I've never seen.
So, yeah, Rennlist has it going on...

It's true that it can get foul on other forums... I was a member of an Audi forum for a while (owned a decently-modded A4 and an A6). After several months of being there I sold my A4 2.8 in favor of a newer Passat 1.8T which I liked better because it had smoother lines in the C-pillar/trunk-line area, and was slightly more slick-looking to me. Plus, a modded Passat is far more rare than a modded A4.
So when they found out about that, I was of course denounced for "taking a step down" to VW even though at that time the Passat and the A4 were on the EXACT same B5 platform and powered by the same 1.8T and 2.8 motors. I couldn't believe what kind of snobs they turned into (as if Audi is the greatest ever?), but I didn't really let it bother me. I had the A6 still so I stayed around and it all passed once I switched all the parts over from the A4 to the Passat and it started looking nice, but for a couple weeks it was like being in elementary school again when you bring a different colored lunchbox.

So anyway, I'm grateful too. Not only grateful but lucky because not only is this board great, but my other stop (the evolutionm.net boards for my other car) is also a great place to be just like this place is. Very mature (yet hilarious) group of guys over there.

I'm really not sure why this board is so calm and people are more relaxed here as compared to some other sections of Rennlist...but it's a nice group of helpful people.
I remember vividly when our own Adrian asked for pics of a certain model on another board at Rennlist. He was dang near lynched for asking for pics (though they probably weren't used to Adrian's style of writing posts that we all here on the 964 board took for granted).
Rennlist is also extremely lucky to have people like Peter Zimmerman frequenting the 911 board and Steve W haning around as well on various boards.
Having our UK participants around is very cool as well to get that flavor of humor and use of our shared English language.

I like to watch the 911 board here too about as much as the 964 board. Some good guys (and gals) over there as well with great senses of humor, though it's a bit slower over there (I think they are all on Pelican!).
I do like to keep an eye open for the "Avoid the 964 all together because they are leaking troublesome cars" type posts when people ask about what 911 to buy on the 911 board. I tend to try to educate people on the shortcomings of the early 964's so that people can not just automatically cross off the 964 models.

(Meanwhile, I've got to go check the oil pan under my car so it's catching all the oil leaks from my cylinder to head leak and I'm starting my 3rd job today so I can get ready to replace my Freudenberg and dual distributor belt...)

we could be on here spending more time obsessing about if our car is or isnt a classic and trying to explain why the value will never go down (as it does with any mass produced car as it gets older) because they are the last of the air cooled, well in our case second to last. We just worry about what the next strange and usually normal sound is and how much it will cost
I am not a 964 owner But try to learn and watch all the boards that i can. in fact I did get flamed just this week for discussing Turbo ideas . Sometimes it gets to much However I have noticed this one is very active but calm as well..
