Default Seat fitting

I searched a bit, but no dice. I am considering two different aftermarket seats, and I want to see if anyone knows how hard/easy it is to fit these and if I can get them low enough to fit me (6'2" #200) with a helmet on. The two seats I am considering are Recaro Pole Positions or Kirkey Intermediates.

Any experiences out there?

Wander over to the Racing/DE forum. This has been asked a time or two.
You can gain a bit of headroom by leaving out the sliding tracks and just mount the seat in a fixed location.

My advice would be to spend the money and go to a Recaro SPG "ProfiSchale" seat. The Recaro quality is far superior to the Kirkey's in my opinion. I've logged a LOT of hours in rally cars with Recaro's and Sparco's and the Recaro's were much better for the long haul for me. My driver commented on the same thing. I've not logged more than a couple test-sit's in Kirkey's but that was enough for me to determine that they didn't fit me.

The problem you'll have is the seat railings are fixed to chassi or are too high with standard rail, I had to get Southbound trimmers in the UK to sell me their rails as Recaro don't do it for a 964 most others but not 964.

try www.southboundtrimmers.com

I've just ordered my Recaro Pole position with leather/diminica and getting the rest of the car trimmed in black suede to match the diminica which is like alcantara.

Cheers

Another consideration will be if you use a HANS device. While the Recaro Pole Positions is a very comfortable seat for me (I currently have SRD's), the location of the Pole Position cutouts for the shoulder harness are too low for HANS usage, on my body. The straps would come in below the shoulder, and have to go up and over the HANS device.

I have the Recaro SRDs installed in my '91 C2. They are very comfortable even on long (7+ hour) drives. You will have to modify the SRD to fit. I had to cut off the inboard recline ***** on each seat to fit. Easy to do but still a pain. Also with the carpets installed, it is a tight fit when sliding the seats all the way back.

Ok, hmm interesting. Thx RallyDog good advice. I saw these on Pelican, but I am not totally sure yet.

Pelican

I have thought about the HANS setup. I wonder is it bad for people who are tall or short? I am having a hard time visualizing the setup.

You also might look at Cobra Misano. They are very light weight and will fold at the hip for various vertical support angles. Google it and you will see.

I'm going to use a R3 from LFT tech. It is worn by the driver and therefore does not depend on the harness.

Gorman - I just placed Sparco L in mine. I am 6"4", 225# and barely fit in the original sport seat with my helmet on. I mounted the Sparcos on the steel frames without using the slider, which saved 1/4-1/2" of headroom. The fitment is a bit of a struggle, as the mounting bracket is nearly flush with the inner tunnel, so placing the bolts from that side takes a bit of imagination, but it can be done. Without the pads in place, I fit with the helmet on, just barely brushing the roof if I try. Without helmet, I can easily use the bottom pads.
I tried alot of different seats at various DEs, and these fit the best.
The only downside is no adjustability once the seat is in. With both seats in, you cannot easily access the back seats.
Weight saving seat 21#, bracket 3# vs 50# for the original sport seats.

Hope this helps
