Default Suspension Installed

It took about 8 hours total, a 12 pack, and lots of patience, but now it's done. My brother and I installed the Bilstien/H&R package over the weekend.

Nothing was too hard really, we just took it slow and steady. To get the rear lower suspension bolts loose, the impact wrench was no help. We had to bring out the 'convincer'. This is a 4 foot hollow alum. bar with an 18" socket handle inserted inside it. Not many things can withstand the convincer, and the P-car was no exception. Bolts popped right off ;-).

I took a quick drive, and WOW, it's a completely different car. Its a go-cart. I am getting my alignment, and corner balance next week, and then I will post back some new pics. I also got the cup II's on there as well now. Here is a quicky:

That looks to be a well-cared-for '89, and am looking forward to your driving impressions after the alignment and corner balance. Has anyone else noticed how many kayaks show up in the background of Porsche owners?

Looks great! The car looks so much more "balanced" when it gets down to that height. Good work!

That does look good!
Looking forward to your impressions, as this will be my first mod if I buy the 964 I am looking at.

If I may ask, how much for the parts (Bilstien/H&R package)?

I have not measured the car yet in terms of ride height. I am going to have the shop set it to RS specs for height and alignment when I take it for the corner balance. As it is now it's WAY lower. The back tires are actually a bit into the wheel wells. I am hoping for a bit more 'rake' when they set it for RS settings. We just guessed when we put the shocks on at where the collar should be placed.

The package I ordered was after consultation with Steve at Rennsport Systems. He is a very nice guy and very knowlegable. The total cost for the shocks/springs was $1355.

Car does look great already - I'll be it will drive even better once aligned, etc.

How did you set the ride height at the time of install - just by a guess or measured up a certain number of threads?

Can't wait to get mine done... waiting for parts.

gorman, what do they get for the align/balance at Kahler's?

Thanks for sharing the pic... I am inspired!

The pic was altered in Apple Apeture for exposure and white balance. ;-). The orig was a bit 'green'.

Kahlers wants roughly $500.

Isn't it amaizing how tight those rear bolts are!

The other bolts that can seem just as tight are the rear caliper bolts!

Not sure how they get so tight, they come from the factory with anti seize on them too!

I set my ride heitht as low as the threads would allow. The shop that did my corner ballance had to bring up the fronts just a bit and the left side about 1/4" to get the car square.

Once that is set you will be amaized on its new cornering ability. I found the ride to be very good too. Not too stiff with the H&R greens.

I did the same, lowered the front to the stops but rasied the rear about an inch higher. Run a neg 1 on the front and rear. Also added spacers and move the wheels out about 18 mm on the front and 15 mm on the rear - they fill the wheel arch nicely now - helped with the corner and improve the look. gus
