Default Polished Exhaust Tip: Pictures do not do this DIY justice!

After reading some post about how the stock exhaust tip is stainless steel BUT painted by the factory, I decided to try stripping the paint and polish. (I know this has been previously talked about in the past, but I'm just excited )

After 120, 200, 200 grit sandpaper, then wet sand w/600 then finishing with rubbing compound the results are fantastic! Again pictures does not do this project justice.

Although it looks like a horse's hoof it's actually my stock exhaust tip after sanding and polishing. Pictures do not do this justice. Originally it is painted black which was extremely faded and scratched. Under the paint lies a very nice polished tip after some elbow greese.

Original Black:

Use steel wool. It takes off the paint better. That tip is not flat, it has small ridges. The steel wool will get in there and remove the paint.

It only took me 2 min /w steel wool. And you're right, it's 1000% better than the old dull paint.

Hmmm....I know what I am going to be doing next weekend! I was going to take mine off and just repaint it in high temp black, but that looks pretty good!

Link to my techart tip at cardomain.com

LONG DUCK DONG,..
Or else, TECHART offers what I installed, see it on the bottom of Page 2, it's a 993 stainless steel tip that costs 200 EUROS= $225 +- But what ever you do, don't paint your original tip, it gets far too hot. Unlike Ron, I had no option, there was nothing to polish! I had to buy something as the heat was burning the bodywork's exhaust outlet..FIRE!FIRE!
Marc A....( BTW ) that's my 964, hope you enjoy it.

I'd start out exactly like Puma did... But go out to 2000 grit paper! It's hard to find anything over 600 grit but you can if you look in some of the parts stores that sell autobody equipment. I polish aluminum (yes... softer than steel... I know.) with grits at 150, 220, 400, 600, 1000, 1500, 2000, then Flitz polish... The aluminum finish comes out like a mirror! I would imagine it would work as well on steel.

And don't forget to use the water. You can wet sand any grit, but definitely anything at 400 and above.
