Default Engine stand adapter

Is an engine stand adapter required if the flywheel is already off the engine and the case does not have to be split? Will the engine bolt up to a standard adapter with the studs that connect the engine and the transmission? Thanks!

I put my engine on a stand before and I can tell you this:

You need an engine stand adaptor regardless of whether the flywheel is on or off. Without the adaptor, you will put alot of stress on the case and case studs. Last thing you want is something bent.

That 3.6 engine is HEAVY!

The engine stand adapter spreads the weight around the ridge on the engine casing, instead of it all being on the two transmission studs. Without it I would be worried about bending the studs or pulling them out of the case.

I've done numerous "top end" rebuilds with the engine case just sitting on the jack. I've torn everything down to just the case - P/C's removed too. And I even have the factory stand/mount/swivel!

Thanks for the replies. I can see that it would distribute the weight better. I can also see that it could be done on a jack stand. But my old back would suffer too much!
