Default Pcar let me down and wouldn't start

Well its been coming for a while.

The starter motor was getting increasingly reluctant to start, wheezing like it has asthma for a few times before banging it in to life.

Final its gone to the big spares shed in the sky - the starter motor not the car!

So today I have to phone either the RAC and blag a tow to the local garage or get it recovered on a low lowder at my cost.

Then in a few days I get a hudg bill for starter motor replacement.

On the plus side I have owned the car for just under 2 years now, driven everyday and this is the first time its let me down and it was expected at some point.

Gota love that car.

Sorry to hear this. What kind of wheezing are you talking about? When my car is "hot" and I come back to it after coming out of a store or somewhere and I go to start it up, sometimes it will just "spin" at first for as long as I have the key turned. Then when I let off the key and try once more, it starts right up perfectly. This only happens once every 25-30 hot starts though. Cold starts, never.

Starter motor for me too? :P

I think I've read here that it's a bad idea to bump start these cars. Is that true?

The way I remember it, you shouldn't bump start any car with a cat. Raw fuel might make it to the cat and go bang.

I finally got it going again, after some in gear rocking and a failed bump start

Little bugger is to smooth and low to get good grip on for a bump.

Its now down at TWG for a fix, hope it will be back by Friday as I would like to clean it.

After several weeks of hard driving and rain soaked roads its mingin!

I can tell you that a new starter motor plus fitting will set you back around £400-450. Ask me how I know...

Picked it up at 4.30 and a bill for £309 inc vat. 217 parts + 91 labour. I was expecting around £450 so in some ways a result.

It sounds like a race car when the new starter fires

So good to get back in the car after driving the Fiat coupe for a couple of days. But I have to take the coupe for MOt tomorrow so another day without the P car :-(
