I'm considering buying a 964 america roadster. I've owned a 914, 912, 944, 951, 968, 928, 930 and 993 before but never a 964. Just wondering if you all had some input on what to look for in 964 models or the Amer. Roadster in particular.
Here's a link to the general buyers guide on Pelican: http://www.pelicanparts.com/911/tech...uthrie_faq.htm.
I thought there was one in the Rennlist Tech section, but I could't find it. Try searching for "Buyers Guide" or "PPI".
I think on of the biggest differences with the 964 is the more complex electrical system.
My advice to you would be to verify that it is the real thing. I got suck it to it and bought what I was told to be an AR. It looks, smells, feels like an AR but isn't. I ended up getting the FBI and state agencies as well as local police involved. After sometime I finally received restitution, not as much as I wanted but better than nothing. The car that I have looks great, is in beautiful condition and runs like a bat outa h**l... and I love it. So, just be sure that you are buying the real thing.
That's an impressive list of P-cars. My only advise is that the 89 and 90 964's had an issue with oil leaks because of their gasket less head design. Don't know if the RS model had the same problem. The problem was covered by Porsche 9f within warranty, if not, it could cost upwards of $9ooo per a Porsche dealer. The problem was fixed in 91. The electrical dashboard "quirks" seem to be traced to back of the clock where all the circuits are cold solder to a ring on the back of the clock. Wierd but fixable. I believe there were only 600 AR's sent to the statesl not sure. Good luck
Volume of America Roadsters was just 250 according to PCA.ORG :
"The 1992 911 America Roadster is a limited editon Porsche of which only 250 were produced. It is the 40th anniversary of the 1952 American Roadster that inspired this beauty. The body is a cabriolet, but with the 911 Turbo's flared fenders and sculpted rear. It has the movable spoiler of the C2/4, though. This car also shares brakes and suspension with the 911 Turbo, but has the Carrera's normally aspirated 247 horsepower flat-6 engine. "
