A new reason for the odometer to fail
Well, maybe you've heard this one before. I was cruising aroung a couple of weeks ago and my odo/trip meter stopped working. So I had the gear replaced, put the unit back in and nothing, speedo still worked but odo/trip didn't. Took the unit back to my shop and he replaced the other gear in there as appearantly it can get hard and not make good contact. I called him Friday to find out how much green I needed in my pocket and he told me that that little motor wasn't getting a signal from the circuit board and as usual after a trip to him, a large expense. He says I need a new speedometer,,,ouch. So I'm going to watch eBay for used speedo's. There is a 993 tipronic speedo up there, but I am fairly sure that the tip uses a different circuit board then the manual tranny speed. THere is an extra ring of pins on the back on the tip speedo.
I need to email North Hollywood and Palo Alto Speedo Repair to see if they can fix this problem and for how much. But just out of curiosty, has anyone else had this problem?

I saw that listing a couple of days ago. I am buying the speedo from him. $200 plud S&H. Helluva deal IMHO. So now the question is, do I just swap out the speedo's, have the new one changed (legally) to my current milage or make a frankenspeedo with parts from both? Obviously the easiest route is to do a straight swap and just stash the old speedo in case I sell the car. The biggest issue would be if Carfax. I am pretty sure that they woud say "Possible rollback".
