Default Rear shocks removal

To replace the rear shocks of a C2, do I remover the center shock nut and let the spring come out with the shock or do I remove the upper bushing with the shock in its entirety and remove the spring with the shock off the car?

Thanks,

Just must take out the shock and the spring as a package! It's DANGEROUS to open the center nut without compressing the spring first. It's a lot of tenison there...

Antoher thing is that I don't think you can get enough power to undo the nut while still in the car.

Also, you may never get the spring and shock out if you open it in situ, the spring would expand and i doubt you'd be able to move it !

Default Thank you

Thanks. I appreciate the info.

I am new to this forum. Just bought my '91 C2. I had a 1980 SC untill 1999. I find these forums increcdibly useful. I was using one for my Honda XR400 and got a lot of good info.

If you haven't already seen it, there is a great write up on how to take off the rear shock and springs at this site http://www.porsche964.co.uk/ . Look under "technical" at the article titled "SUV 4x4 conversion". I changed my shocks/ springs last weekend using that write up. The toughest part is taking out the 22mm bolt from the bottom of the shock body/ trailing arm. Undoing 147ft-lb torque with 16 year of crud is tough when your working with 18" of space.
