Question Tire pressure recommendation?

I'm taking my '90 C4 to the track this afternoon to run a few laps. Does anyone have a recommendation of tire pressure for my RE71 street tires?

Das,

Sorry, no info on tyre pressures, but I wanted to ask if you are going to the 911 & P world track day? Of course, I am assuming you live in the UK.

Enjoy your day out

On RE-71's, run factory tire pressures, I have a set that I use the first few sessions at the track, just use factory pressures...believe that's 36 psi front and 42 rear? I forget, always have to look in the door jamb.

After you get "hot" let 3 lbs out each tire, I sincerely believe that the recommended factory tire pressure for a 964 is quite high, but it's a good starting point, plus you won't wear your street tires out as much.

Das,

You'll have an absolute blast at the track!!

Anyway, if you haven't already done so, you might want to go to the Tracquest Driver's Ed board -- www.tracquest.net.

Todd Serota runs Tracquest, and he has some definite opinions about tire pressures. He used to run a '90 C2 Cab at the track, and now he runs a (modified) 996 cab.

Good luck, stay safe, and have fun!!

Thanks Jeff, FYI I ran with 32 front, 34 rear yesterday and it worked pretty well. Wear was just about where it should be with my slow lap times (first time on track). With more aggressive driving, I will probably go up a couple pounds to keep the wear off the sidewalls.

Actually 32f and 34r should work great, I was just attempting to give a VERY conservative answer to your question as the theory behind tire pressures has a WIDE range of opinions/possibilities.

I actually use 32f and 36r at the track w/my RE-71s and 30f/34r w/Hoosiers.

Notice I have a 4lb difference from front to rear, I feel this is important, other "trackheads" use even pressures on a C2, this, I don't understand, especially w/all that weight in the rear!
